Company activities and impact

During the financial year to which this report relates, Racing Pride continued to build on its partnerships with major companies within motorsport and the associated automotive industry, in order to deliver programmes of education relating to LGBTQ+ inclusion and visible allyship for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as creating opportunities for LGBTQ+ motorsport participants and aspiring motorsport participants to gather within a supportive community and sample motorsport related experiences. Alongside ongoing relationships with Aston Martin Formula One Team, Aston Martin Lagonda, Alpine F1 Team, Red Bull Racing, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Ltd, and Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, Racing Pride also entered into new partnerships in 2024 with McLaren Racing and Arnold Clark Automobiles Limited. Through these partnerships, Racing Pride delivered both programmes of internal workshops, guidance, and advice for thousands of employees of these companies as well as highly visible external public activations in support of the LGBTQ+ community. This included actions such as Racing Pride supporting Aston Martin Lagonda’s presence at Birmingham Pride, the Racing Pride logo featuring on the steering wheels of McLaren Racing’s Formula 1 cars at Grand Prix races taking place in June, and recording video interviews with LGBTQ+ industry professionals to be used for EDI education undertaken by Arnold Clark employees across the UK. In 2024 Racing Pride was present with ‘Pride Hubs’ - spaces for the LGBTQ+ community to gather and for people to learn about allyship - at major public events such as the British Grand Prix at Silverstone and the Goodwood Festival of Speed, both for the first time. For the first time, in February 2024 Racing Pride hosted a summit event called ‘Accelerate Pride’ at the British Motor Museum bringing together Racing Pride partners as well as other companies and organisations working on inclusion across motorsport and its associated industries to share ideas relating to advancing LGBTQ+ inclusion within the space. Racing Pride continued to grow its Membership Community open to LGBTQ+ people and allies with any level of engagement in motorsport whether as participants, on either a professional or amateur basis, or simply as enthusiasts/fans. Drawing on our relationships with partners, members of this community enjoyed unique opportunities to meet multiple teams at Formula 1 Grand Prix events, gather at races, and engage in social occasions. These activities were either free of charge or heavily subsidised by Racing Pride. Alongside this, members have access to a moderated online discussion server and to online events via a private Discord channel. Racing Pride continued to engage with, and encourage diversity within, student motorsport societies through its relationship with Formula Student and by running an Award within that competition for the student society doing most to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion. The winners of this Award enjoyed prize experiences with Racing Pride’s partners aimed at encouraging them into careers in the industry. Racing Pride joined Motorsport UK to present Pride Hubs, open to participants and spectators, at national motorsport events such as a round of the British Kart Championships held at Shenington Circuit in Oxfordshire and at Rali Ceredigion - a European Rally Championship event held in and around Aberystwyth, Wales. Racing Pride also worked with Motorsport UK to put on a public-facing panel session at the Bicester Scramble event alongside an opportunity for our members to visit Motorsport UK’s Bicester headquarters. Racing Pride continued to update and publish resources relating to LGBTQ+ inclusion in motorsport and the automotive industry on its website and across its social media and internal communications channels and those of its partners. Racing Pride’s ambassadors across motorsport – competitors, engineers, mechanics, officials, volunteers, media, and support personnel – continued to represent Racing Pride and the LGBTQ+ community, and advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion, both at racetracks and in the media.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our key stakeholders are LGBTQ+ people in motorsport and companies, teams, clubs, and other organisations within motorsport and related industries. In December 2024 we issued a survey to our full member community. This helped us to understand the demographics and identities of our community, their involvement with motorsport, and their experiences of inclusion/discrimination as part of that involvement, as well as their satisfaction with Racing Pride’s in-person and online events and any obstacles to attendance they may have encountered. Over half of respondents (51.4%) had directly experienced homophobia, biphobia, or transphobia in connection with motorsport, with 45.2% of this originating on social media - showing the importance of our work to create greater inclusion and of our digital platforms and member spaces. 89.4% of respondents who had attended a Racing Pride event in person rated their overall experience at 4 or 5 out of 5, with 5 being ‘very rewarding’. No respondents cited a lack of interest for why they did not attend in-person events, with the most common reasons being distance of travel and diary clashes. Meanwhile, over 97% of respondents made use of Racing Pride’s online Discord server, showing the importance of this digital option. Since this survey closed, in response we have introduced new locations for in-person events and new formats for online events. Finally, 100% of respondents who had attended a Racing Pride workshop event with one of our Industry Partners rated the experience at 4 or 5 out of 5, with 5 being ‘excellent’. In addition to this survey, we regularly interact with Racing Pride’s member community of LGBTQ+ people within motorsport online via our dedicated chat server in addition to email, social media, and online events, as well as in person at Racing Pride community events, and we routinely encourage feedback from this community. We are in continuous contact with Racing Pride’s industry partners, and our relationship with the national governing body, Motorsport UK, enabled us to identify trends relating to levels of inclusion within the sport and where additional support from Racing Pride might be beneficial. The feedback we obtain in these ways is used to help shape the direction of Racing Pride, and is discussed regularly by Racing Pride’s board.
