We have carried out surveys and consultation with our community and as a result of their feedback have been able to demonstrate the need for our services to funders, ensuring the continuous provision of opportunities and activities in our community, allowing us to: - Provide continuous employment for 5 part-time staff - Provide vital support and safe spaces for vulnerable women and girls in our community - Provide accessible opportunities for those from the most marginalised communities - Build and develop partnerships & collaborations with other local and statutory organisations to provide an holistic approach to support for our community - Increase awareness and linking in with other support services and activities available for our community Case Study – Claire July 2024 I had seen Gilded Lily on Facebook and thought the activities that they were doing looked good, and were something that I would be interested in doing, especially because it’s on my doorstep. In January 2024 I began to attend the Tuesday group, Positive Vibes Changes Lives. This group is fantastic, there really is a positive vibe at each and every session. At my first session the other women went out of their way to welcome me and make me feel comfortable. I attended the Confidence Building Course because I had really enjoyed the Positive Vibes Changes Lives and the Women for Women – Digital Confidence sessions. Also, I felt that my confidence had been low over the last few years, so thought I’d give the course a try. I don’t think I would have had the confidence to go to the course, if I hadn’t been made to feel so welcome and comfortable on both the Positive Vibes Changes Lives and the Women for Women – Digital Confidence sessions. I think the course has had a very positive impact on me. Firstly, it took being on the course for me to recognise how low my confidence had actually got. So, I think coming to Gilded Lily has improved my confidence; has made me less likely to second guess myself and more likely to be sure of myself. Secondly, week to week I felt more positive about myself and life in general. This had a knock-on effect of me feeling self-assured in my interactions with both family and work colleagues which improved my relationships. Thirdly, I really enjoyed the course and meeting all the other women and hearing their stories. When someone shared an experience or a problem that they were going through all of us could relate to what they had been through or were going through. That recognition and support really helped me not to feel alone and validated what I’ve lived through and often not acknowledged at the time; often because the event was hurtful. Overall, the confidence course has been extremely beneficial to me, and I can’t recommend it highly enough. I really, really enjoyed the Confidence Building Course, it was just what I needed. The course content was evidently well thought out and well presented. However, without Kam making the environs, in which the course took place, a secure and safe place for everyone, I don’t think the course would have been as rewarding. Case Study – Action for Children – Feb 2024 Glasgow Intensive Family Support Service is a service which supports children 12-18 years old who are on the edge of care. It is our job to support the young person and their families and one of our main aims is to help them connect with their community and build a supportive network around them to gain sustainability. The staff are always striving to connect with communities and liaise with other agencies to work as a strong team to provide the best support for our young people. During a community connector search staff were delighted to come across Gilded Lily. Gilded Lily is known in the community for their efforts in supporting young girls and women to build their confidence, expand their friendships, improve well-being and increase feelings of happiness in a safe, supportive and uplifting environment Many of the GIFSS staff have turned to Kim and her team to support us in delivering a great service for the YP. The most used resource for the GIFSS team is the “She Project”. This empowering programme allowed our young girls to build new friendships, learn new skills, socialise in a safe environment, and helped them to build confidence. Kim and the team made them feel listened to and valued which is something they haven’t felt in other parts of their life such as in school, home life or when engaging with other agencies. It was a fun activity for them to do and they looked forward to it each week. This group gave the girls a fun opportunity which they may otherwise not have experienced. One young person learned how to write poetry in this group and has since became a very enthusiastic writer and it has helped her regulate her emotions and come to terms with difficult thoughts and feelings. Another girl enjoyed building friendships within the group and was so pleased to turn up to her first day at college, walking into a room of strangers and recognising a familiar face of a girl she met at the She Project. The support is very effective, and we need more organisations like Gilded Lily in our communities. Staff who support the YP to these groups have also loved visiting this project, it has assisted us to build positive relationships with the YP, we have benefited from the advice, support and experience that Kim brings, we have left feeling uplifted and Kim has shared knowledge and networking with us which allows staff to progress in our line of work. We are all very grateful for this support. Kathryn Dool Family Intervention Practitioner Action for Children, Glasgow Intensive Family Support Service (Gifss)
