Gwynsson CIC provide a weekly art social group for Gay male asylum seekers and refugees who are currently based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. - The group has provided a safe space for these men to socialize and learn new creative skills. - The group has provided a much needed venue as an alternative to the traditional gay scene which often centers around alcohol use and can be intimidating and even exploitative. - The group has provided support for these men in their applications for asylum, providing written support for their home office correspondence. - The group has supported these men to access better health outcomes by supporting letters to GP's and other health care professionals as well as sexual health services. - The group has supported with information and advice around housing, education and other support agencies in the city.
No consultation with stakeholders
The total amount paid to myself was £6190.00 for my role running the weekly art social group for 12 months. This came from the National lottery Community Fund grant award. There were no other payments or transactions received.
