Company activities and impact

Benefits to local community and event visitors: the event brings music of quality from throughout the world to an area with scant provision. Learning opportunities in the form of free workshops, including stone carving, capoiera, woodcarving, highland dance and many others. Through the dedicated acoustic music sessions area local musicians have he opportunity to network and play with musicians from throughout Britain. Talks on such topics as local wildlife, the southern upland way, growing your own food, and the night sky feature during the event. The company roadies employment opportunities to local people. The enjoyment and inspiration brought to the events from musicians from places such as Spain, Haiti, India and the US and Africa do much to promote appreciation understanding and appreciation of other cultures in an area of scotland that has few ethnic minority residents. Benefits to local businesses through visitors spending in the area. Furthermore research has shown that many visitors from outwith the region are very likely to return. Benefits to the region: The festival site and publicity and media coverage raises the profile of D&G, which has one of the lowest wage economies in the UK Benefits to the Scottish Music Industry: As a Scottish festival we always book a high proportion of professional Scottish artists

Consultation with stakeholders

The company’s stakeholders include local people, local businesses, local/young Scottish musicians and festival goers. We pay careful heed to visitor feedback and act wherever possible to improve facilities and service eg a ticketing system is now in place to avoid lengthy queuing. Broadband has now been made available
