COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

STRANDLINERS C.I.C.

Company Number: 11741225 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

Strandliners C.I.C. is a volunteer-based, non-for-profit organisation and social enterprise, dedicated to identifying and recording environmental pollution from the marine and riverine habitats, primarily around the Rother and Cuckmere and Pevensey Levels catchments, and along the East Sussex and Kent coastlines. Through training and community engagement, Strandliners C.I.C. co-ordinates surveys to monitor environmental pollution with community volunteers, engaging in citizen science to support local, national and international organisations. We survey plastic pollution on beaches and riverbanks, identifying and recording the data for organisations such as The Rivers Trust, Marine Conservation Society, Break Free From Plastic and Fidra. The more we identify and record plastic in the envornment, the more we realise how invasive an issue it has become. We analyse water sample samples from local rivers and streams, with a focus on setting up community hubs to monitor their local waterbodies. These events also promote health and wellbeing.

Consultation with stakeholders

Strandliners C.I.C. has interacted with local communities, landowners, businesses, local authorities and NGOs, increasing public awareness of environmental pollution. Input is through face-to-face contact, project consultations, newsletters, questionnaires, social media, website enquiries, video stakeholder meetings and on-the-ground site events. These interactions guide Strandliners C.I.C. policy-making and planning, focusing on active on-site surveying and monitoring, education within community and schools, and local authority projects.
