During the year, AMHI CIC has continued to deliver its core community benefit through a programme of free to access angling events. Our primary focus has been on hosting free Let’s Go Fishing event days designed to provide individuals and families with opportunities to engage in fishing for the benefit of mental health and wellbeing. These events offer a fully inclusive environment, removing common barriers to participation by supplying all equipment, bait, and tuition free of charge. Sessions are supported by qualified coaches and volunteers to ensure a safe, relaxed and welcoming experience. Our key goals remain to: Promote mental health awareness through angling. Encourage social inclusion and reduce isolation. Provide accessible, low-pressure outdoor activities that support emotional resilience. Throughout the reporting period, we have run several successful events across local waters, directly benefiting individuals from a wide range of backgrounds including young people, adults facing mental health challenges, and those at risk of social exclusion. With a reach of over 500 people in this year, this now equates to over 1000 since we started. Building off of our successful free to attend event days, we also started our Cast award training courses via a preliminary test run. These were setup at temporary lower cost of 15 per session, with group discounts of 3 plus (10 each). We also gifted 2 young students a free access pass to our courses for this period, in recognition for their ability and angling development. All but a few made it up to our Level 3+, and had shown excellent competency in angling and understanding of wellbeing benefits. We have also continued to build strong partnerships with local angling clubs and fisheries, enabling us to expand the reach of our events while keeping delivery sustainable and community-focused. This Allowed us to host events on multiple venues to add more options and reach a wider community. This also led to a very positive uptake in memberships for the fishing clubs and societies, with one club having over 400 percent increase in junior memberships. Our work was also recognised early on in the financial year, shortly after forming as a CIC, and was awarded the Community Project of the year 2024 from the Mid Sussex Applauds awards. We also had a spot on the Mid Sussex Radio Morning Show to showcase our work, as well as representing our work at the Ardingly Show ground’s South of England Show.
AMHI CIC regularly consults with its stakeholders including participants, volunteers, partner , sponsors, and mental health professionals through informal feedback sessions, post-event surveys, and ongoing conversations on-site. Feedback is reviewed to improve event delivery, ensure accessibility, and identify community needs. Stakeholder feedback has reaffirmed the importance of offering open-access, non-judgemental spaces for people to engage with nature, find calm, and connect with others. Several participants have reported that attending events has had a positive impact on their emotional wellbeing, motivation, and social confidence. We remain responsive to these insights, ensuring that events remain participant-led in both design and delivery.
