Open Gallery CIC’s activities have provided significant benefits to the local community in the past financial year, primarily through inclusive art exhibitions, community workshops, and engagement initiatives. Expanding Access to Art Open Gallery CIC created welcoming spaces for people across Halifax and the region to experience contemporary visual art, hosting multiple exhibitions such as the Abstract Art and Botanical & Floral shows. These events brought together diverse artists, encouraging creativity and connection while attracting visitors from varying backgrounds and fostering cross-generational engagement. Supporting Artists and Volunteers The gallery supported emerging and established artists by providing platforms for exhibition, artist promotion, and professional development. Volunteers and artists gained experience through roles such as gallery assistants, event support, and education, further strengthening local creative networks.
Open Gallery CIC conducts regular consultations with its stakeholders, including artists, volunteers, and gallery visitors, through a mix of open calls, feedback, and collaborative project planning. Artist Consultations The gallery issues frequent open calls for exhibitions and actively invites submissions from UK-based artists, providing clear guidelines about entry and participation. Artists are kept informed and involved at every stage, with prompt notifications regarding selection, delivery deadlines, and installation logistics. Feedback is sought during and after exhibitions, allowing artists to share thoughts on display, marketing, and visitor engagement. Volunteer and Community Engagement Volunteering includes opportunities for skill development, with volunteers invited to assist in gallery operations, event support, and education programs. Volunteers contribute feedback on gallery procedures, audience interaction, and event management, influencing future activities and outreach. Community members are routinely engaged at events, with the gallery encouraging visitor feedback and suggestions. Open Communication Channels Stakeholders are encouraged to contact the curator through CuratorSpace and social media to express concerns, suggestions, or queries regarding exhibitions and gallery operations. The gallery fosters collaborative partnerships with local artists, organisations, and supporters, ensuring that programming remains relevant and adaptable to community needs. This ongoing consultation helps Open Gallery CIC shape inclusive, responsive, and successful arts programming for Halifax and the wider region.
