Notes to the Financial Statements

for the Period Ended 31 March 2025

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable for goods supplied and services rendered, net of discounts and Value Added Tax. Revenue from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership have transferred to the buyer (usually on despatch of the goods); the amount of revenue can be measured reliably; the associated economic benefits will probably flow to the entity; and the costs incurred or to be incurred in respect of the transactions can be measured reliably.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

Tangible assets are initially recorded at cost, and are subsequently stated at cost less any accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Any tangible assets carried at revalued amounts are recorded at the fair value at the date of revaluation less any subsequent accumulated depreciation and subsequent accumulated impairment losses. An increase in the carrying amount of an asset as a result of a revaluation is recognised in other comprehensive income and accumulated in capital and reserves, except to the extent it reverses a revaluation decrease of the same asset previously recognised in profit or loss. A decrease in the carrying amount of an asset as a result of revaluation is recognised in other comprehensive income to the extent of any previously recognised revaluation increase accumulated in capital and reserves in respect of that asset. Where a revaluation decrease exceeds the accumulated revaluation gains accumulated in capital and reserves in respect of that asset, the excess shall be recognised in profit or loss. Depreciation: Depreciation is calculated to write off the cost or valuation of an asset, less its residual value, over the useful economic life of that asset as follows: Fittings fixtures and equipment - 25% straight line If there is an indication that there has been a significant change in depreciation rate, useful life or residual value of tangible assets, the depreciation is revised prospectively to reflect the new estimates.

COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

RISING ARTS AGENCY CIC

Company Number: 10227147 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 March 2025

Company activities and impact

Rising Arts Agency is a youth-led social enterprise based in Bristol that connects forward-thinking organisations with young creatives to create meaningful and lasting change. We use our resources, expertise and community of 100+ engaged young leaders to deliver successful training, youth-led campaigns, creative commissions, research and consultancy. 2024/25 was a big and award-winning year for the agency, from consulting young people on place-based strategies in Bristol (Harbour Placeshaping) and North Devon (Cultural Investment Strategy for Bideford) to moving into our very own space for the first time. We also secured our second-ever core funding from the Paul Hamlyn’s Art Fund, along with Bristol City Council's Openness Funding, until 2027. We also celebrated the end of our Space to Dream project funded by Freelands Foundation with an exhibition of the Rising Fundees’ work at Kit Form. We secured Continuation Funding from them to carry on our work, delivering on the recommendations from our WhoseCulture? Report. Other highlights were: Delivering another successful round of our Caring Work Cultures training Hiring a Community Producer Welcoming 3 new Advisory Board members Supporting the engagement for the Gender Stories exhibition at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery Hosting a Community Film Showcase in collaboration with Bottleyard Studios Starting work on our Community Climate Action Plan, including a citywide consultation with young people on their climate priorities We did this all with one Co-Director and a Non-Executive Director on maternity leave for a large portion of the year, enacting our innovative New Parents’ Policy for the first time. Next year, we’re excited to build on some of this work with the additional capacity of a new team member, freeing up our Agency Producer to build new relationships, as well as working towards the leadership transition and designing our first accessible recruitment process for the new Co-Directors of Rising, who will take over from Jess and Euella in 202,6 and give new young creatives the chance to lead the agency’s future

Consultation with stakeholders

Rising’s primary stakeholders are young people aged 18-30 living in and around Bristol who aspire to a career in the creative sector, particularly those who are currently underrepresented. As an agency led by and co-created with young people, our focus is on enabling them to take control of their futures and advocate for better representation across the arts and cultural sectors. Having received agency support, these emerging artists now possess a sense of ownership and continuously demonstrate their commitment by sustaining Rising’s work through promotion, engagement and word-of-mouth discussion. We are increasingly invited to contribute to city-wide cultural strategy, where we support young people from our community to take up space in strategic decision-making. As our profile has grown, our stakeholders have grown too to include not only those individuals and Organisations working in Bristol, but also regional and national organisations in other similar sectors, who see and identify with our work.
