Company activities and impact

Autistic Knowledge Development CIC is an autistic led think tank and test space for new ideas The company fits the UNCRPD definition of a Disabled Peoples Organisation DPO and the companys activities and impact this financial year have been designed and delivered by autistic people for the benefit of the autistic community This financial year the company has Delivered our own standalone nationwide adult autism pre and postdiagnostic support service Managed our own nationwide ongoing online peer adult autism support space with 150 and growing active members This is heavily moderated including at the weekend It has proven to be both a valuable resource and a safety net for our community when unplanned and timely support is required Created a large well engaged suite of free to access static resources on our website for both formally and selfidentified autistic people This includes accessible how to guides short videos audioonly versions written transcripts and both short and depth versions of useful information Worked in partnership with National Autistic Society Scotland to deliver an entirely autisticled and designed nationwide pre and postdiagnostic service for autistic adults in Scotland called Embrace Autism This includes making a bold new step for the autism sector to support people without access to a formal diagnosis and people on a waiting list for a formal autism diagnosis This service has been externally evaluated and the findings are that this has a huge positive impact on a supported individuals life and life outcomes We have helped directly over 250 people through group and 121 support so far Continued working in partnership with Self Directed Support Scotland SDS Scotland to deliver SDS for Autism training This training is for all SDS member organisations and is designed to inform delivery staff and service managers to better support autistic people accessing their support The feedback from this has been excellent to date Provided 11 mentoring to autistic older children and young people across Scotland Provided bespoke Access to Work support for autistic and multiply neurodivergent professionals in the workplace Contributed as an official stakeholder member for the Scottish Government on the proposed new Autism Learning Disability and Neurodiversity Bill and Commissioner Continued to develop a range of strategic influencing and advocacy relationships for the autistic community This includes the Scottish Governments Autism and Learning Disability Policy team Universities HSCPs Social Enterprise Scotland The Alliance Scotland Social Work Scotland MAKI Network NHS SIGN patient involvement network Public Health Scotland and the International Foundation for Integrated Care This includes delivering information talks andor sessions for some of these organisations Delivered a series of autism podcasts with Autisticradiocom which has wide engagement both within the autism community and with nonautistic professionals working within the autism sector Provided paid subcontractor employment opportunities for a range of autistic people and autisticled organisations outside of our own organisation

Consultation with stakeholders

Autistic Knowledge Development CICs primary stakeholders are autistic people Secondary stakeholders are individuals and organisations who impact the lives of autistic people The companys directors are all autistic and their own personal experiences of being autistic are combined with wider stakeholder consultation to shape everything the company does All the support services delivered to autistic people this financial year have been codesigned with the people they support During this financial year the company has Input into Scottish Government work on the Autism Learning Disability and Neurodiversity Bill and Commissioner stakeholder panel based on feedback from the autistic community and people we support For example some autistic people told us they were not opposed to a bill and commissioner and could see potential benefits but that they needed more information to fully support it Whilst the companys directors support the idea of a new bill and commissioner with this stakeholder consultation in mind the company has approached its work on the stakeholder panel from a neutral standpoint seeking to provide greater clarity on what a new bill and commissioner could do and have refrained from public campaigning for or against such a bill and commissioner Championed the nothing about us without us movement across the autism sector We continue to influence the national discussion here with our groundbreaking evidencebased approach to professional autisticled and designed support All our training for professionals working with autistic people is bespoke and designed collaboratively around what these individuals and organisations tell us they require and what autistic people tell us they wish professionals knew Created a vehicle for the autistic people we support to directly advocate and influence national health and social care policy themselves This is done via our closed and heavily moderated online peer support group that has 150 and growing active adult members ranging from ages 18 to 70 and with people from all walks of life demographics and backgrounds represented This includes designing and conducting official consultations for the Scottish Government on lifelong health conditions various projects for SDS Scotland Personal Assistants Benefits and other Universityled research with autistic community lived experience input We actively gather feedback and collate action research data from all the support services we provide for our autistic community This shapes updates and refreshes the content we deliver multiple times over each financial year
