In our Community Interest Statement we state: “Brecon Buzz CIC will pay attention to the townscape, create and support events, building the positive experience of the town for visitors and residents with a focus on culture, art, history and connection. In so doing Brecon Buzz CIC aims to continue and compliment work to improve Brecon's reputation as a town with a welcoming and unique offer and build much needed resilience for the future.” Brecon Choir Festival is Brecon Buzz's core activity ad supports this ambition, and having hosted a third successful festival in 2024 we are committed as Directors of Buzz and the volunteer Choir Festival team to helping to programme cultural events which include the community, a key action from the Brecon 2020 Plan. As always the community of Brecon as well as visitors to the town are the main beneficiaries from this festival. The event responds deeply to the cultural and Welsh roots of the town but offers many different members of our community the chance to join in with the different events. It is not just the concerts, which have different price points as well as some being free, which attract people but the walking tour and the wonderful singing in the pub at the Afterglows. This year all our local schools had some pupils involved. We also managed to encourage some members of our local Ukrainian Refugee community to sing at the beginning of the Choir Trail and Men’s Shed Shanty Men were also part of the Choir Trail. The Young Singers Competition offers local children as well as those further afield a great opportunity if they are interested in widening their singing aspirations. Brecon Singers have a key place in the programme with the opening concert for the past two years and Aberhonddu & District Male Voice Choir and the cathedral community are at the core of our festival. The majority of local accommodation is booked by choirs and their families. We made a donation to Brecon Food Bank from the proceeds of our Cymanfa Ganu.
Many of our stakeholders are volunteers at the Festival or sing in the choirs that are part of the event and we have planning meetings as well as run a survey after the event.
