REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2024
REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
For the Year Ended 31 December 2024
The trustees, who are also directors of the charity for the purposes of the Companies Act 2006, present their annual report with the financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2024.
The trustees have adopted the provisions of Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019).
Objectives and Activities
Families Anonymous exists for one purpose: to help those concerned with someone who may have a problem of drug abuse or dependence.
We pursue this purpose by:
-Practising the Twelve Steps of Families Anonymous,
-Encouraging and understanding those affected by addiction,
-Welcoming and offering comfort to the families and friends of anyone with a current, suspected, or former drug problem (Tradition 5).
The Charity's object, as set out in the Articles of Association (Special Resolution), is to relieve and prevent distress and poverty among families, friends and dependents of persons who abuse drugs or have related behavioural problems, by the provision of information and support.
Primary Activities
-Operating a helpline, available 365 days a year,
-Managing a website and online discussion forum,
-Responding to public enquiries and raising awareness of the fellowship,
-Supporting members through group registration, the AGM, and the annual Convention,
-Producing and selling literature.
Co-Chairs and Board Report
At the 2024 AGM, Jemmy and Clive continued as Co-Chairs. This was Clive's final year, with a handover to Sharon scheduled for March 2025.
Office Flood and Relocation
In early 2024, the Battersea office was severely damaged by flooding. An urgent appeal was made to the fellowship for both financial and practical assistance. The response was remarkable: members donated funds, organized skips, sorted damaged materials, and transported surviving literature to a temporary office in Stroud at the Old Convent.
Working groups were quickly formed to handle insurance claims, funding, and literature recovery. Thanks to the resilience of volunteers, operations resumed promptly. Later in the year, the board resolved to make the Stroud office permanent.
Volunteer Commitment
Trustees wish to record special thanks to all volunteers for their exceptional commitment during this difficult period. Their efforts in cleaning, moving, and re-establishing services ensured the continuity of the charity's essential work.
Governance and Events
-The 2024 AGM, held during the Birmingham Convention, was a success.
-The board recognizes the importance of strengthening its structure by recruiting new trustees and volunteers into key roles.
-Social media and digital outreach continue to be developed as part of ongoing engagement strategies.
Public Benefit
The trustees confirm that they have complied with their duty under section 4 of the Charities Act 2006 to have due regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit.
Families Anonymous groups are open to all. The Charity's activities focus on supporting those affected by another person's drug use, while also raising awareness among potential new members.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2024
Treasurer's Report
For the Year Ended 31 December 2024
-Closing bank balance: £28.487
-Donations and Gift aid : £11,664 (an increase on 2023)
-Literature sales: £3,286
-Convention profit: £800
-Expenditure: £12,857, down £4,246 compared with 2023.
In the year the full value of gift aid, £2,136, plus £1,055 of the donations went towards the re-stocking of literature after the flood.
Summary
The year closed with an improved financial position due to increased donations and careful cost management.
Principal Funding Sources
The Service Office relies on donations from fellowship groups, consistent with FA's principle of self-support. Literature sales, both to members and external purchasers, also represent an important source of revenue.
Investment Policy
Funds are primarily used in the short term to support operations. Where possible, surplus funds are placed in short-term deposits to generate interest.
Reserves Policy
Reserves remain sufficient to cover more than 12 months of expenses. The policy is to retain at least six months' expenditure in reserves, with corrective action taken if reserves fall below this level. Surpluses above this may be donated to the FA World Service Office in support of international fellowship work.
Website and Digital Services
-Literature orders: 152 in 2024 (2023: 180).
-Online shop income (donations + literature): £3,286 (2023: £2,795)
-The decline since 2021 (£3,401) was partially reversed in 2024.
Forum
-Total members at year-end: 2,369
- New registrations in 2024: 303 (2023: 313)
While many forum users do not attend meetings, trustees encourage experienced FA members to share their stories online to support newcomers.
Helpline
-Calls in 2023: 1,716
The helpline remains the fellowship's frontline service, offering immediate and compassionate support.
Public Information (PI)
In 2024, Families Anonymous strengthened outreach to organizations in the addiction and recovery sector, including:
-West London Well-being,
-Teflon & Wreak Drug & Alcohol Recovery Service,
-Chester University.
FA also engaged with the Mutual Aid Reference Group (MARG) and took part in recovery events at HMC Springhalt, HMC Kirkman, and at a 12-Step Recovery Fair in Guilder, hosted by Visible Recovery and local MP Angela Richardson.
Fellowship Liaison
-FA maintained a presence at the NA Convention in Birmingham and at the Yorkshire & Humoresque Area Convention, sharing literature and hosting FA meetings.
Literature
The Battersea flood destroyed a significant portion of literature stock. By late 2024, stocks had been reprinted and restored to operating levels at the new Gloucester's office.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
FOR THE YEAR ENDED 31ST DECEMBER 2024
Conclusion
2024 was a year of both challenge and resilience. Despite the severe disruption caused by the Batteries flood, Families Anonymous emerged stronger, thanks to the commitment of trustees, volunteers, and fellowship members nationwide.
Looking ahead, the charity's priorities remain to:
-Strengthen the board through recruitment,
-Continue expanding digital and social media engagement,
-Maintain financial stability,
-Provide vital support services to families affected by drug abuse and dependence.
