COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

Company activities and impact

Following suspension of its events programme through 2022/23 due to post global pandemic effects, it was hoped that there would be a recovery in sponsorship support, however that was not to be the case. Therefore, the BWA decided to further extend suspension of its planned 2023/24 programme of events. The BWA continued to operate its INSPIRE Award Scheme on a reduced scope basis relative to the years fund raising capability. Through the INSPIRE Award Scheme supports were proved to the Wales University Royal Navy Unit and a number of Sea Cadet Units. These being the standard Award package donated each year. Faced with the legacy climate of the most extraordinary of circumstances post COVID19 pandemic the BWA Board and its Trustee’s considers it has used its best endeavours to fully meet its intended aims and objectives.

Consultation with stakeholders

The company holds regular meetings with its key stakeholders, company members S.J.Watts and S.K.Bains, who have key input into the continuous development of the BWA CIC business plans. In addition, in the wider membership context, the BWA operates a Membership Council(MC) which has delegated responsibilities from the executive. The MC holds the primary execution responsibility for the delivery of BWA activities, events and projects. The MC normally would meet three times per year. The BWA is organised by geographical region, which is further focused by the warships affiliated to that region. Each BWA supported ship has a BWA Aux Crew(AC), which is run by a local membership committee who deliver BWA events and projects. Each AC is represented on the BWA Membership Council. Through this structure, the BWA is in continuous contact and engagement with its members, the sailors and their families, and their needs and with the needs of the charities. The structure has proved highly efficient and meets all delivery expectations. It is through this communication structure that decisions were taken to suspend and ultimately cancel all BWA organised 2023 & 2024 events due to the pandemic and legacy effects.
