Company activities and impact

2024 has seen Windermere Science Festival breaking new ground. We have delivered science events, workshops and shows to over 2,000 school children and families. The science festival in May 2024 was our busiest yet, with record visitor numbers and evaluation showed the event to be of the highest quality, with excellent activities and speakers. We were grateful for Lakeland Arts support again of this event and enjoyed mutual benefits, by attracting hundreds of first time visitors to their site to enjoy world class science, art and culture. We received new support from Westmorland and Furness council for a new initiative over 3 years (to November 2026) for public engagement activities around nature and climate. The Granada Foundation also contributed £1500 for a second consecutive year. Arts Council England supported a major Arts and Science program that saw us deliver innovative and excellent activities in theatres and cultural centres across the South Lakes. Another new relationship with the Lake District foundation emerged as we work together with partners to restore reed bed habitat around Windermere. We have also made contact with new funders who took interest in our work and look forward to growth in 2025.

Consultation with stakeholders

We continue a dialogue with the people who attend our sessions, from informal conversations to online surveys. Participants have the opportunity to tell us what they liked and what other provision they would like to see. There was requests for more ecology based activities and workshops, that we plan to fulfil. We also have had requests for informal education around river/freshwater ecology and space/time.
