Company activities involve the organisation of walks and other activities in multiple UK locations with these missions in mind: To say "thank you" to unpaid carers To offer accessible walks to suit all capabilities To foster new friendships To strengthen the bonds within the local community To develop a love of the outdoors and an appreciation of the benefits of nature To help embed the joy of walking into everyday life of all participants . including those living with disabilities, long term health conditions, mental health issues and loneliness Other activities include fundraising, online communications, marketing, administration, writing and commissioning stories, liaising with sponsors and stakeholders. Independent evaluations have established the impact of these activities on carers and the people they care for is very positive in terms of physical, mental and emotional health, community cohesion, reduction of loneliness and building resilience in individual lives. As a company we also have an impact in the health-related community/media - helping to raise profile and plights of carers and the people they care for.
We work in partnership with primary stakeholders: Sport England, who provide part of our funding and monitor all expenses. Subsidiary stakeholders and sponsors include NHS social prescribing, various community foundations and other organisations. We consult with all and produced detailed reports on expenditure. An independent evaluation was commissioned by Sport England and published in December 2022. The report explored the objectives of Stepping Out using a combination of qualitative and quantitative data, including interviews with participants, volunteers, organisers and partners. Our stated objectives are as follows: To improve physical health To improve mental health and wellbeing To embed walking -based exercise in people’s everyday life To widen opportunities for people with disabilities To reduce loneliness and isolation To build a strong, more resilient community To allow participants to have fun To foster valuable partnerships with other organisations The conclusion of the report was that Stepping Out produces significant health benefits for its participants, including physical and mental well-being, reduced social isolation and increased physical activity. Stepping Out has created valuable collaborations at local level between partners and stakeholders, each area evolving in different ways to suit its specific demands and conditions. In line with previous evaluation conclusions: Stepping Out regularly trains people who were previously carers into volunteers and volunteers into walk leaders.
The total amount paid or receivable by directors in respect of qualifying services was £35,000. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
