The Company is working towards a vision of a society where every human is celebrated for their differences. Our mission is to create a completely inclusive community where people with learning disabilities are valued and celebrated for their differences. SENDAWELCOME is building a flagship community within Bristol where neurodiversity is celebrated. We raise awareness of the issues society creates for people with learning disabilities so that all people can work together to make things better. We educate and inform and inspire our stakeholders so they are empowered and supported to make changes that benefit people not just with learning disabilities but the whole community. We make supportive connections so that people can build valued relationships that sustain in a community where people with learning disabilities are celebrated. The company became a CIC on 19th November 2021. During the financial year 2023-2024 the company has carried out the following activities and benefited the community in the following ways: The structured period of reflection which produced a clear vision, mission and 5 year plan allowed us to position ourselves to take advantage of new opportunities. Significant New Developments: In July 2024 the MyCommunity Bristol project, which we were instrumental in bringing to Bristol, transferred from Mencap to SaW. Accompanying grant funding has allowed us to employ a project manager, events manager, community connector (person with learning disabilities), and development coach. All are employed on a freelance basis. They began in post in September 2024. This development will mean a significant increase in our output and impact which will be felt more greatly in 2024-25, including continuation of the following, which were put in place under the Mencap held MyCommunity project: - Community Events - A Newsletter - Local What’s On guide - Regular Action group meetings - Links with other SEND organisations Governance: - Ensured updated policies Organisational capacity: - A Mencap grant has provided funding of paid project manager and director time, as well as the work done on a voluntary basis. Increased our profile: - Our improved website has enabled us to convey clearer messaging to engage key stakeholders. - Our social media presence has increased with the amalgamation of the MyCommmunity project. Reached more stakeholders: - Our partnership with MyCommunityBristol and subsequent take over of the project is allowing us to expanded our stakeholder group and engage many more adults with learning disabilities. - The Action Group which we now host gives a platform for people with learning disabilities to use their voice to express their needs and instigate action for positive change in our community. - The MyCommunity project enables us to build partnerships with other learning disability focused organisations across the city.
Clearer messaging and story telling via our website, social media, and local press has enabled the people we work with to better understand and engage with our mission. The new project manager is able to spend time focusing on communication which is engaging more people with SAW as a community led vehicle for positive change that they can shape and use. The MyCommunity Action group is ensuring that more disabled adults with learning difficulties are steering our work and feeling empowered to make positive change. Around 10 people are currently part of the Action Group. Feedback on the impact this is having has been moving. It has made a real difference to lives. They report increased confidence and self esteem, enjoy being part of the group, discovering new abilities, making new friends, and most importantly being able to influence real change to improve their own lives and that of other people with learning disabilities. All these things support individual positive mental health and resilience while making a real positive change towards inclusion in our community. The 5 year plan helps partners and other stakeholders understand our aims.
