Civil Engagement workshops in sustainability: Engagement in local council strategy/policy for intervention to be conducted by council is usually low within the hard to reach and ethnic minority demographic community across the UK. We are keen to support alleviating these issues by engaging our local community within sustainability and how their voices are key to decision making within the community. How we will do this is by developing monthly workshop programme, where council officers, researchers, and councillors of our local authority will be asked to deliver talks on new strategy/policy to be implemented within the borough. The focus will be on sustainability with talks, workshops, and programmes gauge around insight into how sustainability impacts the community. From educational sustainability programmes for local schools to consultation session lead by council officers. The organisation will be setup to facilitate increasing engagements with hard to reach and ethnic minority communities in the borough with a sole purpose on sustainability/recycling. The benefits of facilitating these workshops will be based on increasing accessibility, awareness and increase input in decision for certain parts of the community. Access to reclaimed materials: We aim to debunk the ‘buying new culture’ and provide access to reclaimed wood/materials for our local community. By purchasing reclaimed materials, provides access to cheaper alternative for residents within the community. This approach not only caters towards an environmental aspect with an increase in circular economy activities and reuse. The social elements can also be developed with hard-to-reach individuals being employed via local supply chains or given access to volunteering within the space. In regard to commercially, you have similar services providers from bigger organisation who are wholesalers of wood/ construction materials. How InUse ReUse Lambeth differentiate itself is based on our recycling objectives with the recovery, sorting and reselling of reclaimed materials and objective to target local supply chain employment/volunteer with local opportunities. Inline with the salvation yard we will aim to deliver monthly woodworking/carpentry workshops accessible to the community and surrounding areas. Wood & Furniture recycling: In many estates across the UK the ongoing issue with local dumping by residents is a prevalent issue. The creation of a new site will enable us to work with our local community to prevent discarded wood/furniture being dump. We will work with our local TMO &TRA’s to provide alternates to dumping on the street. Hackney council for example provide a furniture collection for reuse services which support encouraging less dumping. Our community interest company will seek to decrease furniture dumping by offering a free to collect furniture services for reuse. The benefits to the community will be the decreasing of unsightly dumping in the borough and support increasing access to furniture recycling. These services support creating a platform for furniture exchange within the community, redistribution of furniture to second hand shops and the overall goal to alleviate dumping/fly tipping.
