Company activities and impact

Our inaugural project, Mandem’s Quarters, launched in June 2024 to support the well-being and mental health of men of colour. The initiative provided a dedicated space for virtual men’s circles, making space for meaningful discussions and shared experiences. A key milestone was our first in-person gathering at Epping Forest, where participants engaged in a reflective men’s circle, a group hike, and a storytelling and music jam session. This experience deepened connection, mindfulness, and self-expression, enhancing our overall well-being and resilience. On March 24th, 2025, we held a powerful session with students and faculty at UCL East, exploring the impact of internalised racism on Black men. Through cultural reprogramming, brotherhood, and creative expression, this initiative challenged harmful stereotypes and created an environment which cultivated self-acceptance and healing. Building on this foundation, we expanded Mandem’s Quarters through several new initiatives. Between May and July 2025, we delivered Mandem on the Move, a five-session programme in collaboration with the British Library, designed to support Black and Brown men in developing their employability and enterprise skills while staying rooted in the ethos of the men’s circle. This initiative acted as a natural branch of Mandem’s Quarters, blending personal growth with professional development to help participants build confidence, networks, and pathways toward sustainable futures. In July 2025, we hosted Mandem's Quarters: The Retreat at The Quadrangle in Shoreham, bringing together 12 men, including John and myself as directors. Over the course of the weekend, we journeyed through conversations, creative expression, and physical challenges designed to cultivate healing, financial growth, fitness, and self-mastery. The experience created a sacred space for each of us to reclaim and redefine masculinity, stepping into it with healthier perspectives, deeper clarity, and a renewed sense of purpose. Additionally, we ran a series of community well-being events in Ealing called Elemental, which took place over five days during the February half-term. These gatherings brought together children and their families through music, arts, movement, and mindfulness. Elemental created a vibrant and much-needed space for creativity, self-expression, and connection - a space that, judging by the heartfelt feedback we received, was deeply valued by the community. We have also developed a collaboration with The Rebirth of the Griot CIC, integrating griot traditions into youth empowerment programmes that we are planning to take into schools, colleges, universities and youth spaces. By blending storytelling, hip-hop, social activism, and mentorship, this project intends to make space for conversation and reclamation of identity, leadership, and cultural pride while preserving narratives for future generations.
