COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

ROMAN ROAD TRUST CIC

Company Number: 09319284 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 December 2024

Company activities and impact

Roman Road Trust CIC is a local community organisation contributing to the improvement of the Roman Road area, in E3 London, for the benefit of residents, businesses and regular visitors. Roman Road Trust works to support the high street, its heritage, as well as surrounding community projects/groups. We operate in one of the poorest boroughs in the country – Tower Hamlets in east London. RRT’s vision is for a thriving high street that forms the heart of a flourishing local community. In the year 2024, RRT’s energy was primarily focused on finishing the construction of The Common Room, a new community centre being built on an unused piece of land alongside Roman Road. Our main activities this year were: - Maintained and developed Roman Road Trust website and Instagram page to grow networks and reach local audiences - Maintained the Bow Heritage Trail and associated website, to document the existing Bow Heritage Trail and add new virtual waypoints to develop it to record local heritage and local people’s hidden histories. - Continued with the build of The Common Room community centre, including decorating the inside. The Common Room is a new community centre on Roman Road managed by Roman Road Trust CIC, which opened during 2024.

Consultation with stakeholders

Roman Road Trust’s key stakeholders are: Residents of Bow and Globe Town Businesses in Roman Road in the Bow and Globe Town areas The local authority Schools, faith groups, community organisations, charities This year, consultation was carried out through: Posts onto RRT’s social media channels encouraging local people to subscribe to mailing list for newsletter updates. Physical presence in the new Common Room community building during fit out, and also afterwards running ‘warm room’ sessions to provide a warm space for local residents. What actions have been taken? Now that the build of the Common Room has completed, our focus has shifted to trying to activate and promote usage of the space. This has included inviting local groups into the space and offering rental on low price terms for locals or community groups.
