During the financial year of 2024, the CIC provided clients with a programme based upon horticultural therapy and life skills training adjusted to their individually assessed needs and aspirations towards becoming more able to seek employment and/or live independently. The CIC providing a service to the wider community by providing assistance to elderly and vulnerable local residents to maintain their gardens. This reduces their stress, the likelihood of deteriorating relationships with landlords and neighbours and “advertising” their vulnerability to criminals, while enabling them to enjoy time in their own garden. The CIC carried out a successful recruitment initiative and was able to bring staff capacity up to pre-covid levels.
Stakeholders are represented through a Reference group open to carers, expert professionals and members of the local community. The reference group receives reports from and offers advice to the Directors. During 2024, the reference group membership was strengthened with the addition of representatives of the local community. The group returned to the rhythm of regular six-monthly meetings. One of the outcomes was an initiative to increase local awareness and involvement in the CIC and the first annual open day was held and was attended by local City Councillors, representatives of Social Services and local residents. Outreach to local colleges was undertaken and resulted in exchange of visits between staff and students. Clients are additionally represented through a process of individual consultation and assessment through which they co-design the service with which they are provided. Overall, extremely high satisfaction levels were recorded and suggestions made for additional activities which will be introduced.
Directors’ received remuneration by way of the PAYE Scheme as paid employees, with taxes and contributions paid directly to HMRC by Newfields Gardening CIC. See full details in final accounts for transparency/accountability. Director wages is noted separately from non-director wages on Profit & Loss Management Information sheet. Directors' wages for the year = £51,743. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for director’s loss of office, which require to be disclosed.
