Raza Sana CIC runs the Northumberland Park Street Gym, a public outdoor gym at the heart of the estate. We deliver weekly community training sessions that are designed to engage, educate and empower local residents to improve the physical and mental health. The gym was built in May 2024 and since then we have delivered 176 training sessions, engaged 311 residents and had 2574 engagements. During the past financial year, we have helped the community in the following ways: - Residents have a free and accessible training space that they now know how to use at their own leisure and time - Enabled residents that haven’t previously interacted with each other to connect and build new friendships - Created a space where the community can come together and have intergenerational interactions and engage in wellbeing conversations - Increased physical activity amongst our participants by 80% - Achieved a self-reported health improvement of 57% - Supported 18 residents with their injury rehabilitation programme - Created 2 paid opportunities for 2 local young people - Raised funds to pay for 3 local young people to gain their Level 2 Fitness Instructor qualification
The company’s stakeholders are the residents in Tottenham, Haringey Council and community organisations we collaborate with to provide a comprehensive support network for people we work with. The company founder and director, Juan Lopez, grew up in Tottenham and lived through many of the challenges faced by local people. This lived experience coupled with local ties to residents and community groups has informed and shaped the design of the project. We have held focus groups with residents and carried out surveys to help us understand what are the barriers for them accessing physical activities. Our research has shown that for most traditional sports clubs and memberships are not affordable and one of the main concerns is the safety of young people, as they are at risk travelling to other areas where there may be provisions due to territorial conflicts. This has led us to shape our provision to make sure we provide a project that makes physical activity accessible and inclusive, whilst ensuring the safety of all participants. We carry out monthly surveys to ensure we receive suggestions and feedback on how we can continue to improve the service. As a result of this we have received requests to expand our sessions to cater for specific groups within the community such as women, over 50’s and parents with children.
One company director, Juan Lopez, has received a salary on PAYE which commenced on 1st April 2025. This is found on the accounts as payment to Juan Lopez with the reference ‘director remuneration’
