Social Impact Report for The Energy Training Academy CIC - Year Ending 30/09/24 The Energy Training Academy (ETA) is committed to advancing a sustainable future through education and engagement with local communities, businesses, and authorities. This report outlines the impact of our key activities and initiatives over the past year. Key Activities and Initiatives Training and Skills Development 1 Trained approximately 400 individuals in Air Source Heat Pump technology. 2 Completed 30 Gas Managed Learning Programmes, supporting individuals to retrain as new gas engineers. Employment and Industry Engagement 1 Attended multiple employment fairs to highlight career opportunities within the renewables industry. 2 Hosted a HeatSource event attended by 30 Scottish businesses involved in the green supply chain. 3 Hosted a Scottish Enterprise Low Carbon Tech event, showcasing the latest developments in sustainable technology. 4 Launched the Net Zero Nation in-person events in January 2024, hosting 12 local businesses to provide guidance on reducing energy consumption. 5 Provided on-site energy-saving advice to local businesses, helping them improve efficiency and sustainability. Community and Educational Outreach 1 Hosted the Net Zero House opening event in January 2024, attracting 80 guests from politics, industry, and local authorities. 2 Created a virtual tour of the Net Zero House, shared with primary school children across Midlothian to educate them on sustainability. 3 Attended the Powering Futures event at Musselburgh Grammar School, where we judged student presentations on sustainable energy solutions. 4 Hosted a Scottish Borders Construction Forum event focused on low-carbon technologies and renewables, including a follow-up visit from Scottish Borders high school students. Policy and Advisory Contributions 1 Directly supported a UK Heat Pump Advisory Group, contributing expertise on renewable heating technologies. 2 Hosted multiple visits from LHEES officers to discuss the demand for green skills training across Scotland. 3 Hosted retrofit and low-carbon technology sessions for Midlothian Council planning staff. 4 Hosted a group from Midlothian Science Zone to explore Net Zero strategies and advancements in low-carbon technology. Social Enterprise and Networking 1 Presented at a Firstport event, advising social enterprises on how to access financial support and grow as a business. Impact and Outcomes 1 Increased awareness and engagement with green skills training among businesses, councils, and local authorities. 2 Provided practical training and employment pathways for individuals looking to enter the renewables industry. 3 Strengthened industry and community collaboration on sustainability and green technology. 4 Inspired young people through educational outreach and engagement with schools. 5 Supported businesses in adopting more energy-efficient practices. Conclusion The Energy Training Academy has made significant strides in promoting sustainability, skills development, and industry collaboration. By continuing to educate, engage, and innovate, we are committed to playing a leading role in Scotland’s transition to a Net Zero future.
