Over the financial year, The Splash Glasgow has made a positive contribution to the community by ensuring residents’ voices are heard, their concerns investigated, and decision-makers held accountable. Our reporting highlighted urgent social issues such as over 3500 children spending Christmas in temporary accommodation, homelessness, and housing shortages. Coverage of local challenges, including traffic congestion in Garnethill and the Sauchiehall Street rat infestation, prompted responses from Glasgow City Council. By regularly attending community council meetings and reporting on redevelopment plans, we helped residents participate more meaningfully in local democracy. We also celebrated community service, including Peter’s 50 years of contribution to his local council, and cultural life through features on nightlife, heritage, and grassroots campaigns such as saving Whitehill Pool. Through hundreds of original stories and exclusives, we provided independent, trusted reporting on issues that directly affect Glaswegians, from cycle safety to major regeneration projects. We remain committed to continuing this work and ensuring the city’s residents are fully informed and represented in the year ahead.
Our primary stakeholders are Glasgow residents, community councils, local businesses, cultural groups and campaign organisations who are directly affected by the issues we report on. We have consulted stakeholders through attendance at community council meetings, direct engagement with residents and campaigners on stories about homelessness, housing shortages, public health and regeneration projects, and by listening to feedback from readers via comments, emails and social media. In response, The Splash has given greater visibility to community-led campaigns such as saving Whitehill Pool and addressing Garnethill traffic congestion, highlighted health and safety issues including cycle lane safety, rat infestations and e-bike misuse, and ensured balanced coverage of redevelopment projects by including residents’ voices alongside council and developer statements. These consultations have strengthened our role as a platform where Glaswegians can voice their concerns and hold decision-makers to account.
