From December 2023 to July 2024 organisational activity was limited due to the retirement of directors and the subsequent process of recruiting replacements. There was a temporary pause in delivery while the organisation underwent a leadership transition, with retiring directors stepping down and new appointments being sought. From July 2024 to November 2024, we undertook a program of desk and face to face research in the Ely and Caerau areas of Cardiff to establish whether or not there would be support and uptake for a programme of street growing in the area.
We set up a partnership with ACE (Action in Ely & Caerau). We met with representatives from 15 key community organisations, attended 12 community events across Ely and Caerau, distributed 200 flyers in key locations, talked with over 500 community members about the idea for a street-by-street-front-garden-community-growing-project and conducted a survey to gauge interest. We received 50 responses to the survey, and an overwhelmingly positive level of interest from a diverse range of people that we spoke with.
