Folkey Birth Club became a CIC in May 2024 and has since fostered a growing community of local pregnant people and those in their early months after birth. Through a combination of funding, local donations and volunteer effort we have facilitated: A free-to-attend monthly Postnatal Circle. A gathering for 15-20 participants, offering community support, and expert guidance from guest spedcialists. A free-to-attend monthly Birth Circle. A pregnancy and birth related support group for 20+ participants, offering peer support, a local birth story, and Q&A. A free-to-attend monthly Pregnancy Nourishment. A bring-and-share brunch meet up for local pregnant women to build community, spend time nurturing themselves, and focus on themselves and their pregnancies. A 100-strong WhatsApp community of local new mothers and mothers-to-be to offer continuous peer support for all pregnancy, birth, postpartum and newborn questions.
We have used feedback forms sent to all members of the Folkey Birth Club community and through this have been pleasantly assured that our work meets the needs and expectations of the community, with 100% of responses saying we'd had a 'very positive' or 'positive' impact on their pregnancy experience. These feedback forms have also been used to inform the development of our newest project: Postnatal Circle. This was an area of support that the community asked for specifically, and so we sought funding to enable that. We have then gone on to use feedback forms during this project to shape its continued development. i.e. the change of location and the inclusion of additional guest specialists. We have appointed a community representative and invite all new members to take any questions, requests or feedback either to the directors, or to our community representative. We have so far had no individual feedback in this way. Through social media and our WhatsApp group we have been able to gather answers to simple questions such as time/dates that suit most of the community members for certain events.
