The main activity of the company during the year 2024-25 was the delivery of the Herne Bay Cartoon Festival. This was the eleventh annual festival celebrating the art of cartooning and included a series of unique exhibitions, creative workshops, and a live event at Beach Creative Art Galleries. All events are free and accessible to everyone. Once again fund raising was a challenge, especially in the current economic climate. We successfully applied for grants from Canterbury City Council and Kent County Council. We received financial support from the Pro Cartoonists Organisation and raised funds and support in kind from local sponsors and the Bay Promo Team. Herne Bay has a high percentage of young people not in education, training or employment and our projects encourage them to engage with the arts and develop new creative skills which may help them to find work. Where possible we have offered temporary paid work experience for young people under the age of 24 during the preparation and delivery of the festival. We have also supported local volunteers who help us to deliver the festival and offered them training, advice and inclusion in our activities and events. Bayguide directors give a lot of time freely to support these training and delivery activities. The community of Herne Bay benefits from Bayguide's activities through increased visitor numbers, widespread media attention, and the opportunity to enjoy free arts events.
