Overview Over the past year, SGPC has continued to make a meaningful impact in the South Gloucestershire community by supporting Parent Carers of children and young people aged 0–25 with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). Our work has focused on providing support, education, and advocacy, ensuring families feel informed, empowered, and represented. Key Activities Support for Parent Carers Delivered face-to-face and online support groups during school term time. Created safe spaces for sharing experiences and accessing peer support. Hosted stay-and-play for early years children with SEND and supported their Parent Carers. Workshops and Training Ran in-person and online workshops tailored to families of children with SEND. Topics included navigating services, understanding diagnoses, and building resilience. Feedback and Engagement Collected views from families through: Event and support group discussions Online surveys Social media engagement Used this feedback to shape our services and inform strategic conversations. Strategic Partnerships Actively participated in strategic meetings with the Local Authority and health services. Represented the voices of Parent Carers to influence policy and service delivery. Inspection Feedback Coordinated a survey for the Area Ofsted and CQC inspection. Received nearly 1,000 responses, compiled into a comprehensive report shared with inspectors. Represented families through meetings with inspectors to ensure their views are heard Stakeholder Engagement Our primary stakeholders are Parent Carers of children and young people with SEND in South Gloucestershire. We engage with them regularly through: Surveys Communications to our member database Social media platforms Support meetings Engagement activities Feedback from training programmes This ongoing dialogue ensures our services remain responsive and relevant to the needs of our community. Our Team All SGPC team members are Parent Carers themselves. This lived experience enables us to deeply understand the challenges families face and advocate effectively on their behalf. In summary SGPC has made a positive difference over the past year by offering vital support and education to families. Our commitment to listening and representing Parent Carers ensures their voices are heard in decision-making spaces, helping to shape a more inclusive and supportive environment for children and young people with SEND.
