KidzFair is a community-focused initiative that provides children and young people (aged 7-17) with hands-on opportunities to develop entrepreneurial skills, confidence, and creativity. Throughout the financial year, our organisation has delivered a series of market-style events where young entrepre-neurs can set up their own stalls, present their products or services, and interact with real customers. These events are designed not only to teach practical business skills such as budgeting, pricing, cus-tomer engagement, and sales, but also to foster important life skills including communication, prob-lem-solving, and teamwork. In addition, KidzFair helps children learn how to accept feedback, man-age challenges, and celebrate successes, all within a supportive and safe environment. KidzFair’s activities have a measurable impact on the community. By providing young people with early exposure to entrepreneurship, we equip them with skills and experiences that broaden their fu-ture opportunities. Families and local residents benefit from seeing children actively contributing to their community, and the wider local economy is supported through increased footfall and engage-ment in the city centre. The project is run by a small team of dedicated local volunteers, primarily parents, who are passionate about providing meaningful opportunities for children outside of the traditional classroom setting. By combining creativity, and practical experience, KidzFair has become a valued platform for nurturing the next generation of confident, capable, and community-minded young people
KidzFair’s stakeholders include the children and young entrepreneurs aged 7-17 who participate in our events, their parents and guardians, local schools, local businesses, and community organisations, including Chelmsford City Council. We regularly consult with our stakeholders to ensure our events are engaging, and well-organised. Parents and guardians provide feedback through conversations, surveys, and informal discussions be-fore and after events. The feedback is overwhelmingly positive, with parents noting how much their children enjoy participating, gain confidence, and develop new skills. Parents also offer constructive suggestions. For example, many recommended holding a pre-event workshop to guide children through what to expect, how to prepare their stall, and what items they definitely need to bring. We have taken this on board and plan to implement such workshops before future events to ensure all participants feel fully prepared. We also consult with the local council, who have expressed that they value the event and the opportu-nities it provides for young people. They have confirmed their support for future KidzFair events, recognising the benefits to the community and the development of children’s skills. Through these consultations, KidzFair continuously improves its events and ensures that all stake-holders, children, parents, and community partners have a positive and meaningful experience.
