ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities
Following a fantastic successful 2023 season for AOTW - 2024 was to bring us a number of challenges both personally and professionally. The current financial crisis within the UK has made sourcing funding for all charities very difficult especially such as grant awards like Lottery funding which has been very difficult for us to obtain despite sending very detailed applications. However despite this, we have still had the very loyal support of many of our sponsors and welcomed two new main ones - Tralee Bay Coastal Parks and Inland & Coastal Marine - both have proven to be valuable assets to the charity both financially and also wanting to work with the charity on partnerships to develop new activities and ideas.

We welcomed our brand new team of trustees to the board - Eilidh McQueen, Michael MacDonald, Daryl Reis-Day and Max McCarroll who bring to AOTW a wealth of experience and their own professional skills. This has had a very positive impact for AOTW as the new trustees have dedicated themselves to be as involved as possible which has helped unload pressure from other individuals who were doing the bulk of the work in the past. The new team meet at least once a month with regular meetings during the summer months complete with minute taking and full agenda with actions being passed onto each to resolve or complete a task needing done.

Despite challenges, autistic activities on the water have been successful not least our very popular Community Sailing Program which has grown thanks to the purchase of another Achilles 24 'Inclusion' this has been a valuable purchase and has replaced our other boat 'Positivity' which has been out of the water this season getting a light overhaul. The Community Sails have seen to date over 1500 people with autism access this program since its inception with many individuals on the spectrum and their families coming from the Helensburgh/Kilcreggan/Roseneath areas as well as far as Glasgow and Edinburgh and one family coming from Skye during their summer holidays. My thanks go to Miriam Sutter who skippered many of these community sails in sometimes torrential weather! Overall we managed a total of 39 community sails in 2024.

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Charitable activities contd
Our Open Days continue to be a success with our two events on the south coast in both Cowes and Gosport being attended by over 80 people with at least 60 on the autistic spectrum coming from far and wide to take the opportunity to get out sailing for free. In Scotland, we held a very successful Crinan Canal trip on board the beautiful Classic Yacht 'Scarbh' which was attended by 30 people who all were autistic. Despite the weather, this proved to be a hugely successful day out for everyone. My thanks go to all the skippers of the individual boats that we use for these open days for without them we simply could not do it. In particular I would like to thank Phill Lupton who has loaned AOTW two boats - a yacht and powerboat - which have both proven very popular - also my thanks to Ross Ryan who gave us the use of 'Scarbh' completely for free and has offered to do more free sessions in the future.

It was our final year being the official charity of Cowes Classics Week and this time we decided to give people with autism the chance to experience the event themselves by spectating the racing of the classic yachts out on the Solent using the powerboat 'Therapia'. This event was attended by 20 people with autism including one family making the trip down from Scotland. The young people really enjoyed watching the racing as well as getting the chance to steer the boat and reaching high speeds! My thanks again to Phill Lupton for use of the boat, Cowes Yacht Haven for letting us berth in the marina for free and Royal London Yacht Club for all their support and help over the last 3 years.

The Clipper Round the World Yacht Race came to Oban in 2024 for the first time ever and we were invited by the event organisers to host a special open day from Oban Sailing Club using our yacht 'Confidence'. We welcomed 30 people with autism throughout this day which despite the cold and wet weather experienced had a great day exploring Oban Bay and seeing the Clipper yachts up close. Meanwhile inside the clubhouse, the young people enjoyed a series of maritime activities including the 'Yacht in a box' game donated to AOTW by the Making Waves Foundation charity from Sydney, Australia. My thanks go to all the volunteers who helped make this day a success and especially to Cove Sailing Club junior member Kelvin Frood who led much of the clubhouse activities with the young people.

Racing Awareness
Since the charity's inception, AOTW has run a highly successful racing program which its main aim is to raise awareness of what the charity does. By taking part in events like the Scottish Series and Cowes Week, for example, this allows people to learn more about the charity and also interests a number of sponsors who continue to support us today.

For 2024, it was to be our first season campaigning our new Hunter Impala 28 which has given us more events to access especially in regard to coastal racing, and we have taken part in CCC Opening Muster, Kip Regatta, Scottish Series, Round Mull Race, West Highland Week, Round Shuna, North Clyde Regatta and CCC Closing Muster. My thanks go to all the volunteer crew for sailing with us which have included people with autism and my biggest thanks goes to Euan Aitken who has been instrumental in leading the Impala project throughout this year, we are truly indebted to the outstanding contribution he has given to the boat this last year on a completely voluntary basis.

FINANCIAL REVIEW
Financial position
Financially for AOTW in 2024 has been difficult as stated at the beginning of this report. Sponsorship has remained positive but grant awards and donations have been very low due to the current crisis financially within the UK. We have had to cut back on a number of activities and events but despite this, we have managed to maintain a positive financial position. Our costs have gone up substantially in regard to boat maintenance, berthing and general costs associated with this. Our trustees are working to source new ways to generate funding and creating a 5 year plan to include a funding mission for AOTW going forwards.

More information and accounts on our independent examiner's report.

FUTURE PLANS
Despite the number of challenges we have faced, AOTW remains in a very good position, we have established ourselves now as the only known charity in the UK that provides on the water activities for people with autism and their families and carers. Activities have remained at a good number with excellent participation particularly on the south coast and within the Community Sailing Programs in Scotland. We plan to expand the Community Sailing for 2025 to include a new base at the village of Tayvallich and more information on this will be included in the report for next year.

We are also thrilled to announce that AOTW has chosen to be one of the official charities for Cowes Week 2025 - this event is the biggest town regatta in the world and a fantastic opportunity to really showcase and expand AOTW across the UK and even the world as many international visitors visit Cowes during this event.

CONCLUSION
Personally, as an autistic individual and the person who built this charity, I have had a difficult year, which has impacted, at times, my role as chairman of the charity. However I have been graciously lucky to be supported by my wife and my amazing team of trustees and volunteers who have really stepped up during this challenging year to ensure the continued success of AOTW. I want to thank each and everyone again for the contribution they have all given to make AOTW what it is today and whilst there will always be challenges, I feel very confident that no matter what challenges we face, AOTW will always come out stronger and better then before and we look forward to proving that going into 2025.

Independent Examiner's Report to the Trustees of
Autism on the Water

I report on the accounts for the year ended 31 January 2025 set out on pages seven to fifteen.

Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner
The charity's trustees are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the terms of the Charities and Trustee Investment (Scotland) Act 2005 and the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006 (as amended). The charity's trustees consider that the audit requirement of Regulation 10(1)(a) to (c) of the Accounts Regulations does not apply. It is my responsibility to examine the accounts as required under Section 44(1)(c) of the Act and to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.

Basis of the independent examiner's report
My examination was carried out in accordance with Regulation 11 of the Charities Accounts (Scotland) Regulations 2006. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from you as trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the view given by the accounts.

Independent examiner's statement
In connection with my examination, no matter has come to my attention :

(1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that, in any material respect, the requirements

- to keep accounting records in accordance with Section 44(1)(a) of the 2005 Act and Regulation 4 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations; and
- to prepare accounts which accord with the accounting records and to comply with Regulation 8 of the 2006 Accounts Regulations

have not been met; or

(2) to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
