The Sarratt COmmunity Garden has had an excellent year, growing fruit, veg and cut flowers for sale in the local community at a very reasonable price, as well as offering social support for local people (particularly those who are elderly or lonely) via weekly volunteering sessions. it has used only rainwater and compost, and has worked in an eco-friendly manner to help to bring about environmental change and awareness, and the reduce food miles. it has funded a weekly recycling collection service for the community nd a food waste composting service, as well as several educational visits from adults and children.
There has been a continuous stakeholder consultation concerning small decisions, made via the active WhatsApp group. the stakeholders are all those who are involved in the garden in any capacity, nd are willing to be in the WhatsApp group. Examples of decisions are: what to grow, what proportions of flowers: fruit:veg, whether to get deer fencing (we didn’t), whether to fund the recycling service (we did).
