People Together CIC, carried social impact activities in the financial year through, advocacy support, addressing food poverty and sign posting beneficiaries to other local services. Our beneficiaries are predominantly from the Roma Community and extended to other communities that access our services from the LS9 and LS8 area covering Harehills & Gipton. Advocacy Support Included support to access housing, pensions, schools for children and unemployment financial support. - Food Poverty Support Included help through our food parcel and donation service. We are partnered with a local charity called Neruka's Soup Kitchen which enables us to address the food poverty problems for our service users. - Sign Posting Included help to access government services such as benefits, pensions and schools. Further support was provided in sign posting to local library job shops, job centre and local community organisations that supports with education and employment. - Our aim for the next financial year is to continue our vital services that helps us to reach the community, and further is to address lack of community cohesion as it continues to take a fall due to the disadvantages our beneficiaries are facing, we aim to fill the gap by providing recreational, educational and personal development activities and support for the Roma Community and other communities that suffer with mental health problems, fear of socialising with other communities, struggles with education attainment, struggles with health & wellbeing, and for those struggling with understanding life in the UK due to being in isolation for long periods of time as a result of language barriers.
Consultations were conducted with mainly the Roma Community, as we were seeking to find out what are the main barriers they faced and what could be done to address these. Our plans for the year ahead details the areas of support which 85% of the service users who participated in taking the survey and being a part of 3 group discussions through the year which had 8-12 in attendance, spoke of their culture and it clashing with the life in the UK and the overall living expectations. There were fears of not living up to the expectations such as caring for children, understand rules and law which govern housing rights and living cost, and education leading to employment. The majority stakeholders being Roma women agrees their culture does not encourage employment, but most mothers sees this narrative changing with the young generation and a number of attendees up to 2-3 being from African background shared of the importance in their culture to meet education and employment attainment. We carried out a couple of surveys and the age group ranged from 25 - 50year olds, with 6 out of 10 at one consultation meeting agreed that culture is a barrier to socialising and integrating. 9 out of 12 at one consultation agreed that lack of education and integration into employment is a barrier to the Roma community particularly women/mothers. 7 out of 11 agreed that mental health and physical wellbeing is a barrier to them integrating. 3 agreed that their weight is an issue self esteem and self-confidence.
