Coffee Sourcing & Supply - We have worked with ethical suppliers and smallholders, ensuring that our products are fairly traded, traceable, and environmentally sustainable. Community Cafe and Events - The CIC has provided an accessible space for local residents to connect, socialise, and engage in cultural activities. Regular events have included coffee-tasting workshops, community meet-ups, and cultural exchange sessions celebrating East African heritage. Training and Skills Development- We have offered barista training, employability workshops, and volunteering opportunities, particularly aimed at young people and individuals seeking to develop new skills and gain work experience. Social Impact Projects- KWETU COFFEE CIC has partnered with local organisations to support initiatives tackling social isolation, promoting wellbeing, and building stronger community networks. Impact on the Community Provided a welcoming hub that fosters inclusion, cultural understanding, and social cohesion. Created training and employment pathways in hospitality and coffee craft, with a focus on supporting marginalised or underrepresented groups. Promoted ethical consumerism by raising awareness of fair trade, sustainability, and the global impact of coffee production. Strengthened community connections through events, collaborations, and outreach activities that celebrate diversity and shared values.
The main stakeholders of KWETU COFFEE CIC are: Refugees and asylum seekers who have participated in our training programmes. Young people students under 25 and adults who have undertaken barista and coffee skills training. Partner organisations, including community groups, refugee support services, and training providers. Paying participants who help sustain the training programme. Funders and supporters who enable us to deliver our community-focused work. Consultation We have consulted stakeholders through Feedback forms and discussions with trainees at the end of training sessions. Informal one-to-one conversations with refugees and asylum seekers about barriers they face and how our training could support them. Liaison with partner organisations to identify the training needs of their service users. Actions Taken in Response Trainee feedback highlighted the importance of practical, hands-on learning, so we increased the number of practical barista training hours. Refugees and asylum seekers expressed concerns about affordability, so we secured funding support to offer free and subsidised places. Young participants requested support with employability skills; in response, we included CV support and interview preparation alongside barista training. Partner organisations highlighted the need for confidence-building activities, which we addressed by creating a more supportive, peer-led training environment
