Chime In was set up as a Community Interest Company on 7th March 2023 by three experienced directors, with the intention to create unique interventions to assist in addressing some of the community challenges within the deprived areas of South Yorkshire. Our Vision is that everyone feels enabled to take action in building healthy, creative and vibrant communities. Our Mission is to enable communities to deliver social action, build enterprising cultures and create a legacy of purposeful change. Our work aims to amplify community voices, choices and opportunities, with our values that are built upon three pillars of change: 1.Improving Lifestyles by inspiring local people to improve the areas they live in; 2.Raising Aspirations by building knowledge, sharing expertise and cascading skills; 3.Making a Difference by creating legacies of action through lasting impact on people’s hearts, minds and places. The impacts of our work this year include: Consulted with 149 young people, aged 5 to19, about the environment, types of activities and careers they have access to and what they would like to see in their communities in the fu-ture. We asked them about health and fitness, how much time they spent on exercise and outdoor activities, and how safe they felt in their communities. Key themes were: litter annoys them, an average of 2 hours a week exercise was seen as ‘normal’, very few sports clubs that they could access (affordability and availability), litter was always mentioned as a problem. Delivered 48 weeks of youth activities, encouraging active lifestyles, healthy eating, traditional games, skills building, leadership skills and career opportunities. Supported 6 voluntary, community and faith groups in the community with sourcing funding, engaging with young people and running events/activities. Delivered 14 young carer sessions, encouraging active lifestyles, healthy eating, traditional games, skills building, leadership skills and career opportunities. Delivered 22 Adult Arts, Crafts, enterprise/business advice and skills building sessions. Overall, we have worked with a total of 487 children, young people and adults from deprived communities.
We have consulted with a variety of stakeholders, including: Young people in Doncaster and Sheffield aged 11 to 19. Adults with SEND and those living in deprived areas. Head teachers and other education professionals. People aged 16 to 24 living in deprived communities. Home schooled children and those not in education, employment or training. Councillors, local authority Stronger Families teams and other community teams, Public Health officers. Family Hub’s, Youth Hub’s, Libraries, faith organisations and youth charities. The feedback has enabled us to make some changes in the way in which we deliver our sessions, and in the design of new programmes.
