Afon Community Dance C.I.C strives to bring the joy of dance and movement to as many people as possible across South Wales. Afon Community Dance C.I.C is based in Rhondda Cynon Taf and works throughout South Wales delivering fun and exciting Creative & Contemporary Dance sessions and projects through the medium of Welsh and English. All sessions are delivered by a team of highly skilled and experienced dance practitioners. We lead sessions in schools, communities and residential homes. During the 2024–2025 period, Afon Community Dance C.I.C. successfully delivered a total of 801 dance sessions across a wide range of community and school settings. These sessions were inclusive of all age groups, from infants as young as six months to older adults, reflecting the organisation’s commitment to lifelong participation in the arts. Weekly participation reached an average of 851 individuals, culminating in an impressive 11,704 total engagements over the year. A key highlight of the year was the coordination and delivery of five public performances and six sharing events, providing a platform for community expression and celebration through dance. Notably, Afon Community Dance played a significant role in the opening ceremony of the National Eisteddfod, held at Ynysangharad Park, Pontypridd. This high-profile event was also broadcast on S4C, offering national exposure for the group and its community performers. In addition to the Eisteddfod performance, Afon Community Dance organised vibrant community showcases at several local venues including the Soar Centre, Penygraig, the Park and Dare Theatre, and Park Hall in Cwmparc. These events highlighted the diversity and enthusiasm of local participants, with a total of 258 dancers from across the community taking part. The performances served as celebratory moments, strengthening community ties and demonstrating the impact of accessible, inclusive dance opportunities. The organisation also prioritised youth development through week-long work placements designed for young people interested in gaining hands-on experience in community arts. These placements offered participants a comprehensive view of Afon Community Dance’s operations, including session planning, delivery in schools and community settings, and performance coordination. This initiative supports the growth of future arts practitioners and reinforces the organisation’s role as a pathway for creative and professional development in the local area. Afon Community Dance C.I.C. continues to operate as a not-for-profit Community Interest Company and remains deeply rooted in the communities it serves. Its work is made possible through a combination of public and partner support. The organisation receives essential funding from Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, We Are Sparc, and Llantrisant Community Council, in addition to income generated through partnerships with local schools. Looking ahead, Afon Community Dance C.I.C. remains committed to expanding access to high-quality dance opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. By nurturing creativity, supporting well-being, and celebrating cultural identity through dance, the organisation continues to make a meaningful and lasting impact on individuals and communities throughout the region.
