Directors' report period ended 31 January 2025

The directors present their report with the financial statements of the company for the period ended 31 January 2025

Principal activities of the company

Creation and Delivery of Performance Work In January 2024, Link In My Bio was formally co-commissioned by Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Britten Pears Arts, with company co-directors Jennifer Farmer beginning to write the libretto and Seta White beginning pre-production work on casting and building creative team. In May, Jennifer completed the libretto, handing it over to co-composers Charlotte Marlow and Dirty Freud. During this time, Jennifer and Seta visited Luxembourg to present the model box (with designer Simon Kenny joining via Zoom) to the artistic and production teams at Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg. In July, auditions were held to cast for the remaining roles. Our partners, Arcola Theatre, offered the audition space in-kind. The score was completed in September, and the final members of the creative team were in place. Rehearsals began at the beginning of November at Arcola Theatre, who were able to offer us a discounted rate. Before the team travelled to Luxembourg for the premiere, we held an open rehearsal for potential co-producers and touring venues to attend. In attendance was the Tramshed, a community arts hub based in Woolwich, who then came on board as a partner for the UK tour. Members of the Royal Ballet and Opera House were also in attendance. The entire team arrived in Luxembourg on 30 November to have our final rehearsals, get-in and tech in the studio at Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg. The opera premiered in Luxembourg on 7 December, to a sold-out house. Our second and final performance on 8 December was incredibly well-attended. Several opera industry professionals were in attendance, including members of the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence. The premiere performance was filmed and was ready for sharing in January 2025. Working with Young People and Communities In line with our commitment to involving young people, for the premiere in Luxembourg, a diverse group of 5 young performers from local schools joined the performances as an ensemble, taking on materials especially written for their musical range.

Year Ending: 31 January 2025

Company activities and impact

In January 2024, Link In My Bio was formally co-commissioned by Theatres de la Ville de Luxembourg and Britten Pears Arts. When auditioning to fill the roles, several members cast had never worked in opera before, coming from other musical traditions such as grime, spoken word and folk. As is the ethos of the company, the diversity and lived experiences of the cast authentically reflected the characters of the opera, and thereby, the opera’s target audience. Rehearsals began at the beginning of November at Arcola Theatre, who were able to offer us a discounted rate. Before the team travelled to Luxembourg for the premiere, we held an open rehearsal for potential co-producers and touring venues to attend. In attendance was the Tramshed, a community arts hub based in Woolwich, who then came on board as a partner. The Tramshed have offered space in-kind and access to their intergenerational community groups when the opera moves towards its UKtour. In line with our commitment to involving young people, for the premiere in Luxembourg, a diverse group of 5 young performers from local schools joined the performances as an ensemble, taking on materials especially written for their musical range.
