COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

NATURE NURTURE SUSSEX CIC

Company Number: 11335398 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 31 January 2025

Company activities and impact

Nature Nurture Sussex aims to provide a variety of events and projects for children and families in Mid Sussex where they can learn about and play in the natural environment together. This takes a number of forms, from public events to private birthday parties, as well as projects aimed at specific family groups and communities. The way we work is inclusive and child centred. Our customers and the wider community benefit from improved mental well-being from being out in the fresh air, a deeper connection with nature, a supportive unstructured environment in which to explore, peer support, opportunities to spend time together and increased confidence through learning new skills.

Consultation with stakeholders

Our stakeholders include: Funders Our funders are clear on what they expect from us and we provide formal and/or informal feedback, depending on their requirements. It is usual for us to produce a summary of what the funding was spent on and some photos as well as feedback gathered from those who have benefited, showing the positive impact the funding has enabled. Families We engage with the families who come to our projects and events before we meet them to ascertain any special needs, ages of children etc to ensure our activities are as inclusive as possible. We invite feedback; using feedback forms, Facebook and Instagram, to ensure we understand and are meeting the needs and expectations of our customers. As a result of this, we have added more information to our website on accessing the woodlands we use and what people should bring with them. We have also made lots of enhancements to our special needs project due to the wonderful feedback, knowledge and ideas the families bring to us. They are an amazing resource for us to improve and adapt what we do. One example is more methods for supporting a child to start coming to the project if that is difficult for them. These include social stories and separate familiarisation visits as well as meeting the leaders who run the sessions beforehand. We have also reduced group numbers to reduce the pressure on the children and their families. We have a mailing list and send newsletters to keep people up to date. We have a public Facebook and Instagram page where people can enquire and give feedback, as well as review our events. We also have private Facebook groups for our Dragonflies project and Dangerous Dads events so people have a more confidential space to communicate with each other and with Nature Nurture Sussex. Sub-Contracted Forest School Leaders Our leaders work closely with us and constantly exchange information, thoughts, and insights to help improve our sessions. They are actively engaged in improving and developing what we offer. The leaders who work for us are highly skilled and committed to delivering a great service. In addition, the Forest School way of working is rooted in inclusive and reflective methods, so our leaders naturally develop good relationships with our families and feedback any concerns or problems to us. Woodland Owners Our relationships with the owners of the woodlands we use are very important. As their customers, we feedback any observations and concerns about the environment, usually informally by telephone or email. As owners and custodians of the environment, they let us know if they are unhappy with how we use their land (although this has never happened!) and inform us of any changes. It is vital that we know what is happening on site and in the surrounding area at all times, so we can adapt our risk assessments if needed.
