Overall a succesful year when it came to drop off forest school sessions with both Primley Woods forest school and Dembury forest school sites ending the financial year fully booked with a waiting list. Family forest school sessions, Saturday sessions and Woodwork sessions continued to be a struggle to fill during the colder months with more families attending during Summer time. Woodwork sessions went from fully booked with very positive, verbal, feedback from parents to having only 1 or 2 families. Because this wasn’t sustainable many sessions were cancelled. We had a change amongst our staff team as our Tuesday forest school lead stepped back to take on a Monday group. This allowed us to recruit a new, male, forest school leader. Asking for feedback from families attending our Tuesday sessions which he started leading in September 2024 was and continues to be always very positive. November 2024 saw us taking the leap to sign a contract to secure a permanent forest school site under the umbrella organisation of People’s Parkfield. Whilst in the process of applying to take over responsibility for the plot of land we did an online consultation and had an open day to find out what mattered to local families. The open day especially was well attended with over 100 people coming throughout the day. Requests for Seasonal celebrations and a dedicated home ed family forest school session were planned in as a direct result of this and have both been well attended.
Little squirrels stakeholders are the families and children attending as well as the 2 other company directors. We make sure that at the end of each half term those who regularly attend our drop off sessions are asked for feedback online and are asked if they wish to continue attending. As a direct result of this we have implemented the following - A wider variety of snack options for those attending - Weekly votes for what next weeks campfire cooking should be - Increased opportunity to take part in woodworking projects Our Monday family forest school group came about as a direct result from our open day at Parkfield Paignton forest school. Parents on the day expressed a wish to have a ‘closed’ group where families committed and friendships could grow amongst those attending. A free trial was offered and feedback sought from those initial families which has shaped the running of the group. Agreements made in consultation with parents are - Free trials on week 1 of each half term block, IF spaces available - Alternating craft/woodwork project week with campfire cooking on the alternate week - Financial commitment from each family reflecting the number of attendees- so total running costs are split and paid according to how many families attend. A fuller group means a lower cost to attend Myself and fellow directors are regularly in contact reviewing and discussing staff performance and ways in which we can continue to work with the local community, making sure we provide what it is they seek to have provided for their children.
Mrs Anne Rees Director has taken gross salary for work completed for Little Squirrels Torquay to the value of £6396 Of this a sum of £2437.56 has been loaned back to the CIC in directors loans to help pay its staff and cover its costs. The total loaned by Mrs Rees now amounts to £26492. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors or for the compensation of the director's loss of office which require to be disclosed.
