Following the successful recruitment of the new therapists, the team reached five and funding was put in place to support professional development of the team. This allowed one of the new therapists to gain her sensory integration qualification and the other her SOS feeding qualification. In February 2025, shortly after increasing her hours to full time, our newest member of staff announced her pregnancy and therefore recruitment began to cover her maternity leave which began in August 2025. Despite the staffing difficulties, the number of initial appointments increased to 60 (up from 23 in the previous year) as well as the number of follow up appointments (1,037 up from 968). It is hoped that this number will increase further in 2025/26 as the member of staff returns from maternity leave and the newly qualified member of staff completes her training and increases her hours. The waiting list for our service has remained open. Previously, we decided to close the waiting list once there were 40 families waiting, however with increased staffing we have been able to meet the demand and allow the waiting list to remain open. We continue to have good relationships with several other professions in private practice and in September 2024 we began to provide occupational therapy to an independent special school in the county for one day per week. We continue to develop community engagement, completing community sessions at local activities, such as rock climbing, gym and cycle provisions. We hope to build on these relationships. Due to another year of difficult staff, we were only able to offer one student placement. Unfortunately, the university ignored our request to have a student who was academically capable and interested in Paediatrics. The student had difficulties with the knowledge required for a Paediatric placement and required a large amount of supervision and support. However, despite this she still failed the placement. Due to the strain this placement placed on the service, no further student placements were offered in 2024/25. In 2024/25 we offered several group therapy sessions following on from staff training, including feeding therapy and bike riding groups. We continued to receive funding from the Worval Foundation, totalling over £5000 which we used to support several young people to receive their therapy for free.
