In July 2024 we held our annual flagship event, The Soma Festival, in Castlewellan Co. Down. As well as concerts featuring a wide range of amazing musicians and genres, we held our Mind, Body & Soul wellbeing events in The Lodge Business & Cultural Centre. We also put on many free events for the local community and tourists alike to enjoy, e.g. entertainment in the Upper Square ('Soma in the Square') which this year included children's arts activities, a petting zoo, and live music. During the festival we collaborated with other organisations based in the area (including Glor Uachtar Tire and Dolmens Climate Action Network) to widen the impact of the festival and to further strengthen our ties to the community. We also staged a fairy gathering/ceremony performed by local artists and musicians to which the public were invited and encouraged to dress up and participate in. The event, titled 'Ancient Whispers: Cruinniu na Sidhe' was a great success and was especially enjoyed by families with young children. In the run-up to this event, we organised for local artists to facilitate workshops in two local primary schools, Bunscoil Bheanna Boirche, and Annsborough Integrated Primary School. The children learned about the exploits of Manannan mac Lir and made their own Irish mythology-inspired shields.
