Company activities and impact

During this financial year, Liquid Dance Academy has continued to deliver a range of inclusive, accessible and high-quality dance activities consistent with our status as a community interest company. We offer regular dance classes for children and young people (aged 3-19) of all genders and abilities, enabling them to channel their energy into creative and healthy activity. Liquid Dance Academy operates to cover a wide area in South Yorkshire and North Nottinghamshire that ranks considerably low on the English Index of deprivation. Our mission as a CIC is to make high-quality dance lessons, creative expression and physical activity accessible to children and young people who might otherwise face social or financial barriers to participation. By offering affordable classes and flexible booking options we continue to ensure that cost does not affect participation. Approximately 25% of our dancers are either diagnosed with, awaiting diagnosis or suspected to be neurodivergent, including conditions such as ADHD, ASD or DCD. Our teaching approach is build around understanding, flexibility and inclusion, enabling all our dancers to participate and thrive at their own pace. We create a safe and supportive environment to ensure our young people build confidence, social connections and self-expression. We have a higher than usual staff to child ratio, where we have two teachers and a helper per class, as well as two junior assistants. This also enables us to be more supportive, inclusive and tailor our approach for the young people in the academy. We have provided a huge performance opportunity for our young people, as they danced on the main stage of Cast (Doncaster), a professional theatre. This is an opportunity for children and families to come together, contributing to community cohesion and wellbeing. We provided an awards night with funding from Voluntary Action Rotherham, where we provided trophies, medals, good quality healthy food for all participants and entertainment to bring the children and families together over Christmas, and celebrate their achievements over the year.
