Company activities and impact

The Firefly Project provides proactive grief education within schools, colleges, universities to create supportive grief informed communities to help grieving young people feel less alone. We have run workshops with young people to co-design tools and resources for themselves and others. Including kicking off a longer term project redefining what a grief community could look like for young people. With some of our founding community self directing their own workshops with our support through creativity. We have worked directly with 88 young people over this time. We’ve also run grief awareness workshops with professionals to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to provide informal support to grieving young people on their care. This includes grief related to all losses, changes and transitions - not just bereavement. We have worked directly with over 150 professionals over this time, providing approximately 4500 young people with access to a grief informed adult. Additionally we worked in partnership with charity Voice 21 to create a grief and mental health resource for teachers in over 1000 schools to help their students have conversations about loss and mental health.

Consultation with stakeholders

We work very closely with all our stakeholders whether they are young people, professionals or partners. Before delivering anybody our workshops, we consult with our key contacts to ensure we can tailor our sessions to meet the needs of participants. This may mean focusing on specific aspects of grief such as displacement, bereavement or environmental grief. We also ensure to capture feedback at the end of each session to continue to adapt the work we do to be more relevant to the needs of our stakeholders. Additionally, all of our workshops are based around design thinking principles and as they are interactive encourage all participants to co-create resources, tools and action plans that are specific to their setting and the needs of their young people. We also run co-design sessions with young people, where we will be guided by their needs. For example the development of our youth community work.
