Principal activities of the company

Kickstart Opera CIC Kickstart Opera CIC brings music and creativity to local communities through free concerts and educational workshops. The company began operating in 2020 and continues to grow its reach and impact. During the financial year 2024–2025, the company’s activities have benefited the community in the following ways: Local residents, including those in rural and coastal areas with limited access to cultural events, have been able to enjoy high-quality live music performances in their own communities through a series of free concerts. Children and young people have taken part in music workshops designed to develop creativity, teamwork, and confidence, giving them the opportunity to learn directly from professional musicians. Freelance artists and performers have benefited from paid performance and teaching opportunities, supporting their professional development and helping sustain careers in the arts. Local communities have experienced an increase in access to the arts and culture, fostering social connection, wellbeing, and community pride. Collaborations with local venues, schools, and community groups have helped to strengthen cultural participation at the local level and create lasting partnerships that benefit both artists and audiences.

  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    1. **Basis of Preparation** The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102 and the requirements of the Companies Act 2006 applicable to companies subject to the small companies regime. #### 2. **Turnover Recognition** Turnover represents income received from grants, sponsorships, donations, and any other funding sources that support the delivery of free community concerts. Income is recognised when the company has entitlement to the funds, the amount can be reliably measured, and it is probable that the economic benefits will flow to the company. #### 3. **Grants and Donations** Grants and donations are recognised as income when there is reasonable assurance that the company will comply with the conditions attached to them and that the grants will be received. Unrestricted donations are recognised when received. Restricted donations are recognised when the related expenditure is incurred. #### 4. **Tangible Fixed Assets** Tangible fixed assets are stated at cost less accumulated depreciation. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets at rates calculated to write off the cost of each asset over its expected useful life. #### 5. **Depreciation** Depreciation is charged on a straight-line basis over the following estimated useful lives: * Musical equipment: 3–5 years * Office equipment: 3–5 years * Fixtures and fittings: 5–10 years #### 6. **Debtors** Debtors are recognised at the amount expected to be received, net of any discounts. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid. #### 7. **Creditors** Creditors are recognised when the company has a present obligation resulting from a past event, and it is probable that settlement will require an outflow of resources. #### 8. **Cash and Cash Equivalents** Cash and cash equivalents include cash in hand and deposits held at call with banks. #### 9. **Taxation** The company is subject to corporation tax on its taxable profits. Tax is recognised when it becomes payable.

Company activities and impact

Kickstart Opera CIC delivers free live music performances and creative workshops within local communities. Our mission is to make opera and classical music accessible to everyone, regardless of background or income. Throughout the year, we have organised and delivered THREE CONCERT series of free community concerts across local venues in Ayrshire, bringing emerging musicians to audiences who might not otherwise have access to live performances. We have also provided music workshops for children, helping them to develop confidence, creativity, and musical skills in a supportive environment. These activities have provided meaningful performance opportunities for artists, supporting their professional development, while enhancing access to the arts and culture for the wider community. The work of Kickstart Opera CIC has contributed positively to community wellbeing, social connection, and creative engagement through music.
