Company activities and impact

The company continues to successfully run walking football and walking netball sessions, plus four Young at Heart classes in the local community and a newly introduced Boccia session. The walking sports sessions provide fun and inclusive physical activity for those who may not be able to compete in faster versions of the game. It is an opportunity for likeminded people to come together, and we encourage those with and without disabilities and long-term health issues to take part. Pershore Plums Stars FC, the walking football club, has seen its membership double over the last 12 months with members reporting improvement in fitness, mental wellbeing and social inclusion. Several friendly matches have been organised with other local walking football teams with the focus on fun and inclusion. We are now affiliated with the local Worcestershire FA and the Walking Football Association (WFA). Pershore Plummies, the walking Netball team, has also increased participation numbers with the direction provided by our new walking netball coach. The players have been able to gain new skills – and refresh old skills. The players have established a strong bond which includes a Christmas social gathering. The club is partnered with England Netball. Being inclusive is our ethos and we maintain this throughout all the sessions we run. The Young at Heart sessions continue to offer both seated and standing exercises and can be adapted for all participants. We were delighted to celebrate a participant’s 90th birthday with a social gathering at local tea room! This year we have introduced a weekly Boccia session. Boccia is a seated sport that enables participants of any ability to take part in a game of indoor bowls. This session has been well received with all involved who constantly share positive feedback. They have built new friendships and use the opportunity to have lunch together after the session. All sessions have made a positive impact on physical, mental and emotional well-being and we shall continue to offer opportunities within the local community to make a positive impact on people’s lives through sports and physical activity sessions.
