COMMUNITY INTEREST ANNUAL REPORT

PATCH OF THE PLANET CIC

Company Number: 14695400 (England and Wales)

Year Ending: 28 February 2025

Company activities and impact

Patch of the Planet’s reputation and impact as a Pembrokeshire-based nature connection enterprise has grown further over the past year. A range of successful and well-reviewed workshops were delivered in collaboration with community groups across the county on topics including, Regenerative soil care Orchard management and fruit tree care Composting Permaculture design We designed and facilitated a volunteer-led design process with participants of Redberth CIC to develop a full and detailed permaculture design of a large community market garden site and a small accessible growing space, which they are now implementing. We also undertook two private garden designs, developing detailed designs for the enhancement of biodiversity whilst servicing the needs of clients, and we designed and started the planting of a large, private heritage orchard, which included a range of heritage cordon apple trees, and agroforestry area. We made further headway in developing our Trees for Resilience agroforestry tree nursery, including through, propagation of trees starting the development of an accredited agroforestry tree nursery programme, which we have continued into the following year.

Consultation with stakeholders

Patch of the Planet’s stakeholders are: Community organisations that run community gardens Members of the public that want to learn how to help nature recover through land-based activities or want designs created for their own gardens that will enhance nature recovery and also, local wildlife Consultation with stakeholders has been as follows: Redberth CIC garden design project was informed heavily and directly by a carefully-designed community consultation processes. We facilitated a series of in-person consultations and analysed this information to directly guide the development of our community garden designs. The private garden designs were designed using the same technique, informed very heavily by detailed surveys and consultations of needs and with a strong focus on delivering for the needs of local wildlife. We were the convener of talks around nature connection and regenerative living for a Welsh festival, Between The Trees. Every event we put on during this period included a feedback form, which allows us to consult on the quality of event provided and on future needs. The results of these informed our planning for events for both this financial period and the year after. Finally, as with last year it is worth reinforcing that every design project we undertook during this period included a very detailed land and ecology survey of the site to be created. Whilst we cannot directly “consult” with wildlife and nature as a stakeholder, this is our best option for understanding the needs of the local wildlife. Designs were undertaken heavily informed by these needs and conditions. Alongside this, we continue to undertake frequent, informal interaction with our supporters on social media channels.
