REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES

ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE
Following last years General Election and its results we rather hoped that possibilities within Parliament and Government as a whole would be better, however, this created more work than first anticipated. With numerous new MPs to contact, our first port of call was to ask member to write to their MP suggesting a meeting with INFACT, then in an attempt to contact that MP, we found emails were failing to get through the Parliamentary system forcing INFACT to set a new office email address.
Our first MP meetings took place the first week back on the 3rd September to re-visit and discuss that situation at hand with the Hughes Report and the campaign going forward. With new and re-elected MPs, we were finally able to drum up support.
This year we had decided to visit the Labour conference for the first time, this allowed to talk to MPs, have brief discussions with the Minister for the DWP and put a question to Health Secretary Wes Streeting MP on the position of the Hughes Report.
With families based in Scotland and their concerns of not having a Patient Safety Commissioner (PSC) there at the moment, and in October we were able to make an appointment to meet with Scottish Labour Health Minister Jackie Baille with a visit to Holyrood. The meeting was very positive and we came home with others to contact on the topic of their PSC.
On 6th November our plans were to visit No 10 Downing St to deliver a letter to the Prime Minister, this was to ensure he and his Cabinet aware of the position of the families affected by Sodium Valproate and the struggles and lack of support they endured. While in Parliament a supporting MP put forward a Prime Ministers Question asking just that and making him aware of our visit, and we met up with MP Cat Smith and others.
Our following meetings were in December in the House of Lords to meet with Baroness Ritchie, Baroness Merron and Baroness Cumberlege, with the advantage of meeting with Patient Safety Commissioner Dr Henrietta Hughes. The same week we had a Teams meeting booked with Baroness Merron as she was now Health Minister and would be dealing with the Hughes Report and Costing for Compensation.
Following all this, on Friday 13th we had a meeting set with Dr Rebecca Bromley to discuss the Diagnostic Clinic and its progress which was coming along slowly and which had been held up be the addition of specialists required. However, after Christmas on the 22nd January we had our next meeting and it was full steam ahead for the Fetal Exposure to Medicines Clinic. This was only to be a pilot scheme in the North of England to see how many families it brought forward and would go on until December 2025. We now had to encourage families to book their place through their GP.
On the 3rd February we had further MP appointments in Westminster, this time joined by their parents to allow them to explain to their MP what life was like for a family affected by sodium Valproate. The meetings went very well, and we had a very special appointment with former Paymaster General for the Conservatives who offered his full support to put forward written and oral questions in the House and to be Chair of any MPs roundtable meetings we felt were necessary.
On the 7th February it was the 12-month anniversary of the Hughes Report which brought along media attention appearing on ITV Granada Reports, interviews on LBC Radio and with a piece in the Sunday Times.
The next was a Westminster Hall Debate on 27th March which we had been invited to by Host Sharon Hodgson MP where she was able to ask Health Minister about the hold up of the response to the Hughes Report with many families lives on hold. The Health Minister to respond was Ashley Dalton MP who gave the Governments heart felt apology for what families had and were going through, leaving many in the gallery in tears.

REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES
for the Year Ended 30 June 2025
Before we knew it, April was upon us and we were approached by Producer of Little Gem, the makers of the Post office programme. It was our opportunity to tell our story although it may take some time and go through many hoops, but the hope was there, meeting with him and his writer many times over the next months.
There were a number of visits to Westminster from May through to June which included meetings in the House of Lords, further MPs new to the campaign and conferences in Parliament and at the General Pharmaceutical Council
All in all, this year had been very busy, yet we still wait for the response from the Dept of Health and Social Care to the Hughes Report.
