Nessie supports the positive mental health of children and young people aged 0-25 years in three ways, offering: - Quality assured, registered arts therapy and counselling to children and young people - Training and supervision to professionals - Workshops and support to parents and carers. Nessie provides easy access to arts therapies, counselling, support and training so that children, young people and their families can thrive. We provide support through partnering with local schools, county councils and community organisations within Hertfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough. Parents can also reach out to us directly. Nessie was initially established as part of an Academy school (King James Academy Royston “KJAR”). The CIC was set up so that these activities could operate independently of KJAR, and the activities of Nessie were transferred across in March 2020. During the most recent financial year (1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025), Nessie has therapeutically supported over 864 children and young people, 256 parent/carers, and has trained over 1160 adults. The support has clear positive outcomes, and this year Nessie has been offered additional direct commissioning awards specifically to support children and young people who are struggling to access education (EBSA). Nessie focuses on children, young people and their families who are not accessing support either due to trauma, co-morbid need, neurodiversity or inequality. Nessie therefore works in the community, in partnership with key statutory and non-statutory help to support access. Nessie’s therapeutic support is evidence based with significantly high levels of engagement and outcomes.
The CIC’s stakeholders are its members, the parents, and children it supports, and the schools and other educational bodies through which it provides its services. Nessie continues to consult with stakeholders through parent/carer forums, local professional/ school partnership meetings and through participation in projects and research. Nessie is supported by CYP-IAPT NHS England training. The new digital infrastructure also allows for efficient feedback and communication between the service and its users. This year, staff consulted with several stakeholders for specific reasons: - to gain feedback from our Autism community - to gain feedback from parents of children with Autism - to gain feedback from parents who attend our parent/carer support - to gain feedback from professionals in education about barriers to support - with young people who are involved as co-researchers, to explore how young people in the general population are communicating about mental health on popular social media platforms. These consultation processes allow us to deliver effective support. We continue to host trainee placements for Clinical Psychologists, Arts therapy and counselling students whose research and practice enriches our organisation. All feedback is put to the CEO and summarised for the Board of Directors in a series of meetings and integrated into the company’s business plan. This has directly impacted the review and adaptation of the website to increase accessibility. In addition, the CEO is currently undertaking a Professional Doctorate with a participation/co-production methodology and has presented at youth engagement conferences to share positive learning.
One director (Rachel Lambie) is paid by the CIC for her full-time operational role as CEO. During the period to 31 August 2025, salary of £52,577 and pension contributions of £10,253 were paid by the CIC, as disclosed in the accounts. There were no other transactions or arrangements in connection with the remuneration of directors, or compensation for directors’ loss of office, which are required to be disclosed.
