In our second year of operation, we successfully secured 2.5 acres of land near Ashford Smeeth, TN25 6RA. This milestone allowed us to expand our regenerative growing practices and strengthen our commitment to sustainable food production. With the help of our dedicated volunteers (7 regular volunteers), we focused on improving soil health and increasing biodiversity across the site. To achieve this, we applied a substantial amount of organic matter (about 10 cubic meters) to the land, which quickly produced noticeable improvements in soil structure and fertility. The results were encouraging. We were able to cultivate a diverse range of vegetables including cabbages, courgettes, tomatoes, lettuces, mixed salad greens, spring onions, and other seasonal produce. Our produce was sold directly within the local neighbourhood (only 2 miles away from the plot), allowing us to connect with the community and demonstrate the benefits of locally grown, chemical-free food. This approach not only helped to reduce food miles but also provided residents with fresh, healthy, and sustainably produced vegetables. We offered our produce to about 50 families All of this was made possible through the generous support of the University of Kent and the Collier Ferguson Foundation, whose funding played a vital role in bringing our vision to life. Their contribution, combined with personal investments, enabled us to develop the land, purchase essential materials, and implement regenerative methods that continue to enhance the area’s ecological resilience. We are deeply grateful for their support, which has empowered us to create positive environmental and social impact within our community.
