Company activities and impact

During the financial year ending 31 January 2025. Taageero CIC continued to fulfil its mission of empowering marginalised communities, particularly Welsh and African families, through culturally rooted support, youth development, and community-led advocacy. Based in Cardiff, Taageero provided a vital bridge between underserved families and the institutions intended to support them, while celebrating heritage and strengthening identity. Key Activities: Youth Empowerment and Identity Building: Taageero delivered weekly youth sessions that provided safe, inclusive spaces for young people to explore identity, build confidence, and develop leadership skills. A key highlight of the year was the annual youth-led event, where young people took the lead in planning and delivering a community celebration that showcased their talents, cultural pride, and collective voice. In addition, the youth group successfully fundraised to organise trips for families, many of whom had never experienced such outings before. These included visits to theme parks, play centres, and other recreational venues, offering joyful experiences and strengthening bonds within the community. Somali Language and Cultural Education: Taageero facilitated Somali language learning for children and families, helping younger generations reconnect with their heritage and fostering intergenerational understanding. Family Advocacy and Support: The organisation supported families navigating complex challenges in education, health, and housing, particularly where cultural or institutional barriers created additional hurdles. - Community Events and Cultural Celebration: Taageero hosted events that celebrated African heritage, promoted intergenerational dialogue, and strengthened community cohesion through food, music, storytelling, and shared traditions. -Training and Capacity Building: Parents and community members were equipped with tools to advocate for their children’s rights, engage with schools, and influence local decision-making. - Policy Engagement and Partnerships: Taageero worked with schools, local authorities, and third-sector partners to promote inclusive practice, especially around safeguarding, medical needs, and racial equity. Community Benefit: Over the course of the year, at least 100 children under the age of 18 and their families directly benefited from Taageero’s services. The impact included: Improved access to education, healthcare, and safeguarding for children with complex needs Increased parental confidence in navigating school systems and holding institutions to account Strengthened cultural identity and language connection among Somali diaspora youth Reduced social isolation through consistent, affirming engagement and community celebration Enhanced community networks and mutual support among families facing systemic disadvantage Joyful, enriching experiences for families through youth-led fundraising and inclusive trips Taageero CIC remains committed to amplifying community voices, celebrating cultural heritage, and building a more inclusive future for all families it serves.
