| Intangible Assets - Patents | ||||||||
| Patents are recognised at cost when it is probable that the rights will generate future economic benefits for the company and the cost can be measured reliably. They are stated at cost less accumulated amortisation and impairment losses. Amortisation is charged on a straight-line basis through administrative expenses over the shorter of the patent’s legal life or the period over which economic benefits are expected to be derived, not exceeding ten years. The carrying value of patents is reviewed at each reporting date for indicators of impairment and adjusted if necessary. Expenditure on research is written off as incurred. |
