Company activities and impact

Over the last year, BlackMaven CIC has continued to strengthen its role as a community-focused organisation dedicated to improving access, opportunity, confidence, and digital capability within Black and Global Majority communities. Our work has continued to evolve, seeing a return to direct delivery with young people, growing our leadership and confidence-building programmes and expanding our support to grassroots organisations across Lambeth and beyond. BlackMaven CIC exists to empower underrepresented & Global Majority groups, supporting individuals, organisations and communities to tell their stories, build capacity and thrive. This year reflects growth across three core areas: youth empowerment, inclusive leadership development and community capacity building. Ongoing work includes: Ecosystem Coldharbour (Violence Reduction Unit – Mayor of London): Communications & Events Lead: We continued to lead communications and events delivery for this multi-organisation consortium tackling serious youth violence in Lambeth. Key contributions included: - Managing community engagement events and network-building opportunities - Leading a full project rebrand and developing new communication and marketing assets - Creating accessible messaging to support local resilience and community-led solutions Management of Social Enterprise Co-Working Space: We maintained operational and community management for Europe’s largest Black-owned co-working space, supporting entrepreneurs and start-ups priced out of conventional office space. Our work went beyond administration, offering: - Informal business support - Networking and community connection - Space improvements and cost efficiency support during a financially challenging period This aligned with our mission to reduce inequality and support Black-led enterprises. The Learning Moment Collaboration: We continued our partnership delivering leadership and personal development workshops for: - NHS staff with lived experience of mental health services - Global Majority staff in higher education in the Midlands - Themes included confident leadership, authentic voice, and equity-centred organisational culture, directly supporting workforce inclusion and wellbeing. New Work and Partnerships Loughborough Junction Action Group (LJAG) - Communications Support: We delivered three months of social media content and digital communication support to amplify community-led wellbeing projects funded through their grassroots grants programme. This work helped: - Increase visibility of funded groups - Strengthen LJAG’s public voice - Improve digital engagement across the local community Building HER Story - Mental Health & Wellbeing Youth Leadership Programme: Co-delivered a six-session programme developing young women into peer mental health and wellbeing ambassadors. The programme included: - Workshops on mental health, identity and confidence - Podcast production skills - Creative media and digital storytelling - A youth-led wellbeing podcast and online magazine Looking Ahead This year highlighted several key themes: growing demand for youth-focused creative spaces, continued need for culturally aware leadership and wellbeing work, and rising interest in digital confidence and storytelling for personal and community empowerment. BlackMaven CIC will continue to build partnerships, secure resources, and expand opportunities to ensure underrepresented communities remain seen, heard, skilled and supported.

Consultation with stakeholders

We regularly consult with the people and organisations we work with to make sure our projects remain relevant and effective. This includes informal focus groups where participants can openly share ideas and feedback, as well as one-to-one meetings with partners and clients to review progress and make adjustments where needed. We also carry out routine check-ins with stakeholders to maintain clear communication, build trust, and ensure our work continues to reflect community needs. For example, through one-to-one meetings with commissioners of our services, we have changed contracted hours to better fit their business operations, and conducted questionnaires with young women on programmes to co-design deliverable content that is relatable and relevant. By combining ongoing consultation, strong partnerships, and creative project delivery, BlackMaven CIC continues to make a meaningful difference. Our approach supports local talent, strengthens social enterprises, empowers young people and adults, and helps address long-standing inequalities. Everything we do is driven by our commitment to positive change and creating opportunities for the communities we serve.
