  • 1. Accounting policies

    Basis of measurement and preparation

    These financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the provisions of Section 1A (Small Entities) of Financial Reporting Standard 102

    Turnover policy

    Turnover is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable, net of discounts and value added taxes. Turnover includes revenue earned from the sale of goods and from the rendering of services. Turnover from the sale of goods is recognised when the significant risks and rewards of ownership of the goods have transferred to the buyer. Turnover from the rendering of services is recognised by reference to the stage of completion of the contract. The stage of completion of a contract is measured by comparing the costs incurred for work performed to date to the total estimated contract costs.

    Tangible fixed assets depreciation policy

    Tangible fixed assets are measured at cost less accumulative depreciation and any accumulative impairment losses. Depreciation is provided on all tangible fixed assets, other than freehold land, at rates calculated to write off the cost, less estimated residual value, of each asset evenly over its expected useful life, as follows: Freehold buildings over 50 years Leasehold land and buildings over the lease term Plant and machinery over 5 years Fixtures, fittings, tools and equipment over 5 years

Company activities and impact

SAHARA HOUSING CIC and Support continued as a 24 hour semi-independent living support service for looked-after young people, both male and females and young people that identify as transgender, between the ages of 16-25. in this period we provided combination of 24-hour shared and stand–alone placements with a comprehensive professional wrap around support service. We provided both short- and long-term support including emergency placements when required. our services were provided around Birmingham & the Black Country and surrounding areas were needed. Within walking distance of town centres with ample shops, parks, leisure facilities and various local amenities which the young person can access. The properties are in close proximity to rail, coach and bus stations, so they can be at ease when traveling either to Education, Training and Employment. The residence were with good-sized bedroom with each bedroom fully furnished with a wardrobe, bed, bedside cabinet and lamp. There are shared communal areas for cooking and living which comprise of a lounge with TV, kitchen and dining area and a back garden for the use of all residents whilst supported by staff. While delivering our services we ensured the following: 1.We assisted in developing and implementing persons individual pathway with support packages through to adulthood for the young person in our service through supported accommodation. 2. Our activities included all safety measures for every young person by ensuring that each young person has a holistic risk assessment, that is regularly reviewed. 3. We provided support to the young person to meet their health and emotional needs. 4. We maintained positive relationships and arranged events that benefited the young person and enabled them to develop their identity, independence, self-respect and care for their own well-being and faith and self-confidence.

Consultation with stakeholders

We consult major areas of concern with our stakeholders. As part of that the following issues are discussed and actioned accordingly: Service User Accommodation In keeping with all the services, the facilities at SAHARA HOUSING CIC the Support is equipped and maintained to an extremely high standard and quality. It has always been our belief that the young people placed with us respond more positively to high quality surroundings, support and education which includes trust and respect. The accommodation provided is furnished in a way that ensures a level of comfort that will have a positive, calm influence on the Young Person’s development and progress towards a successful, independent life. Bedrooms: Each bedroom consist of carpets, curtains, single bed, wardrobe and dressing table etc. Lounges: Each lounge is furnished with carpets, curtains, sofa, chair, coffee table, dining table & chairs. Kitchens: Each kitchen is fully fitted and equipped to a high standard with fridge, cooker and storage cupboards. Bathrooms: Each bathroom is equipped to a high standard and clean. Laundry: There is a communal laundry room/area with a washing machine. Staff Office /Accommodation: In addition, one further unit is used by the ‘sleep in’ support worker. There is an office staffed 24 hours per day. FIRE PRECAUTIONS AND EMERGENCY PROCEDURES. Staff received awareness training on Fire Precautions and Emergency Procedures as part of the Induction Training process. Young people are informed of the fire and other emergency procedures as part of the Young Persons Handbook which is given to each young person upon admission into the accommodation,
